    Hello all,

I have a question for you all. I currently serve as an adjunct faculty member at a large, for-profit college. My MBA, CPA and industry experience have been enough to qualify me to teach management courses, including some courses in supply chain management.

I'm curious as to how others may view the value of certifications. We hear a lot about how the MBA/CPA does the trick for many people. What about other qualifications such as the CPIM or various Six Sigma belts. Has anyone been able to leverage those into successful adjunct positions? I'm wondering if I should be eyeing other opportunities for development.

In my opinion, certifications help to get community college or undergraduate level teaching gigs but not so much for graduate level courses. For graduate level teaching publications are much more important, if you want to teach at the master's or PhD level it is far more cost effective to have good publications under your belt than sigma, APICS or any other commercial certifications.
