I checked my transcript and Excelsior did accept my Astronomy course for natural science/math credit. But that was quite a few years ago. I would challenge Excelsior on their decision.

Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestion. We will challenge it! But just in case, I still am curious about whether or not ALEKS will satisfy the requirement.

    Thanks again

    *bump*

Still trying to find out if EC will take ALEKS or not. I'm assuming they will but I would like confirmation just in case we run into trouble tomorrow. Emily is officially planning to sign up.

Well, I called EC on behalf of my wife and contested the school throwing out the STATS class and with minimal argument they allowed it.

Also, Penn Foster's Info Lit class is here and it's easy as pie. According to her she may even complete it today! She got a 95% on the 1st test within a few hours of receiving the package.

Then she's done! I'll be able to focus on my school situation. I'll try to make her sign up so she can properly post an "I'm done" thread and thank everybody who helped me figure out a way for her to do this :).

dont forget that you can pay $25 to become a member of POAG of Georgia and receive tuition and enrollment discounts from Excelsior.

    .........

They sent our transcripts back to PFC.
"not enough information to identify the student".

I cannot believe they cannot pick up a phone and find out what her social is as opposed to making us start the process over.

    So.........

I guess I'll just use ACE, I wanted to send it directly because she got an A and it would positively affect her GPA a bit and maybe cost less to process, but oh well.

I wanted mine to go through because then I would actually have a GPA and it would be a 4.0, but I've decided, I literally don't care. I just want this to be done.

Excellent! I think it is vital to get any degree on your resume ASAP. Some people go all the through to BS/BA, however, in a working persons world, getting an AA degree on a resume shows an accomplishment. My wife and I did that. She is now going to complete her BA from Aspen U. Good things are happening!!!

Yes, and you are not going into huge debt as a result!

Debt sucks. After this condo is paid for I will never go into debt again (unless my wife absolutely forces me to buy a bigger place someday). I've always been committed to the idea of getting out of school debt free. That dream is about to come true...in five years after excelsior is done shuffling papers from one desk to another.

I learned this lesson the hard way.

After I dropped out of my first resident college I figured it would be quick to complete my Bachelors anyways. Year after year I worked night school courses with no degree. Had I completed an Associates first it would have locked in my course work to that point.

A degree in the hand is worth two in the bush. Think of it as a ratchet.

Congrats to your wife, I know she's proud of her accomplishment!

What's next for the debt-free duo?

    Thanks you guys!

Well I've got all my certs and AP either arrived or on its way to EC. When I verify they have everything I'll sign up and figure out which FEMA classes I need to transfer. Then I contact FCC (or Clackmas or whoever EC will take cheaply) and get my FEMA sorted out, then if all goes well I'll be getting my degree soon (ish).

After taking a brief time out I will probably commence planning of Emily's four year degree. it is my intention to have her try straighterline, ALEKS, NFA and FEMA to get much of her remaining lower level credit. i believe she has 6 upper level credits already. With any luck she will only have to take a few upper level classes or tests. Before we get serious about getting anybody's four year degree I want to find a way to pay off the condo. Then we will truly be debt free!

Oh my gosh! I didn't realize I could join POAG...I've been trying to decide between Excelsior and Charter Oak, and then trying to figure out how on earth I was going to afford to go back to school. This may just be the ticket!

Thank you so much for posting this information!
