That's fair, but an alternative is to wipe it and install Ubuntu Linux instead. I realize some people's eyes glaze over at this point, but this is what I did with our Acer laptop and it really was so easy a caveman could do it. It used to be really hard, but nowadays it's just a matter of following straightforward directions.

Oh, I'm right with you :) My oil submerged PC is using linux and I'm having a blast learning about it. I do have one complaint, although not a problem for me I believe the people producing many linux apps anticipate a higher level of technical literacy and many seem very unafraid of having users implement the terminal which is just not something many everyday users will do. I've only downloaded a handful of apps but many of them have had me plugging away at the terminal.

Which distribution of Linux are you using? With Ubuntu I occasionally use a terminal because I know what I'm doing and it's convenient, but I can't remember the last time I had to use it. I install apps straight from the Ubuntu Software Center (easier than on Windows!) and then just start them from the Applications dropdown.

I mean, my 75 year old mom does it.

Then it's probably just bad luck or user error on my part. it's the newest release of ubuntu (10.04, right?). My most recent experience has been with LMsensor (or something like that), I needed to monitor the temp of my CPU since the full submersion, oil based cooling system is such a novelty. It required that I manually unlock sensors and install a package through terminal.

Yeah, I guess if Mom wanted to install an oil-based cooling system she might have to get technical, but for normal use like documents, email, web, plugging in a printer, and other things like that it's been all pretty straightforward.

I dunno, heat monitoring is pretty simple, in windows I download speedfan and it just works :).

I was impressed that both my sound and wireless card (both reasonably new) worked without any interference on my part. I was very, very, impressed.
