    Good points

Good points, Little Fauss. I also agree with Jack on most of his points as well. As far as your mid section analogy, I agree 100% I will tell you why. A punch to the human skull with no gloves and tape, is 100% different than punching the skull with gloves on. A full force punch to the skull is basically like hitting a cinder block. I can attest to this. As further proof, this resulted in Mike Tyson fracturing his hand in a street fight some years back.
I consider myself a combination Street Fighter/Martial Artist because I learned what worked and what did not work on the street (in my wilder days), and as a bouncer. For street fighting, soft tissue or vital point strikes cause the most damage to ones opponent. For example, a swift short chop or punch to the trachea will take someone down very quickly. Or going back to the mid section example, a short corkscrew punch to the ribs causes extreme pain(tenderizing effect), this results in the enemy usually doubling over, a great opportunity to execute a short swift upper cut to the chin causing whiplash like damage/trauma.
For the record, a boxers punch generates a lot more power than a traditional Martial Arts punch. That's way many of us combine boxing principles along with various other forms of Martial Arts.
Anyway, don't get me started, I can go on for hours.

    Take care gentleman!

The "good street fighters" that I know can box a bit but typically they don't even try this approach, especially with someone who sets up like a boxer. They typically have a number of years of formal martial arts training and in addition to whatever hand strikes they have in their repetoire, they also have a bunch of kick moves as well as grappling moves. A good boxer can almost certainly outpunch most opponents but if he's laying horizontal on the ground he had better hope that he remembers his high school wrestling moves because most fights that last more than ten seconds "go to ground." Mostly, however, they're just very tough and pretty sneaky. They typically carry multiple weapons and they don't wait to get punched before they use them. If anyone is interested, they can learn a bit about these sorts of fighters here:

You make some very valid points Jack. I also tell my proteges that if a move just does not work, they better be prepared to gouge eyes, pull an ear off, bite or do whatever it takes to keep from getting killed. This may sound extremely violent/wicked to some, but a violent situation can only be equalized by employing even more violence than your attacker.

    Take care,

P.S. Thanks once again for helping me out with that paper a while back, I never forget an act of kindness. If you ever need something, let me know.

    Respectfully,

Thank you for taking my comments in the humor it was intended. A little levity is refreshing from time to time.

When I was in the ninth grade a friend of mine took me to St. Mary's Catholic Church (New Orleans). The church had a boxing program and a "Mr. Whitey" was the trainer/program coordinator or something like that.

I had five fights. I won two, drew two, and the last one I got beaten so badly I never fought again.

The last fight was where I, not Muhammad Ali, invented the "Rope A Dope." Only problem, my opponent never got tired, I did! Ha!

My dad was never a boxer like I was, but he was a street fighter (which I have never been--I hate the things, I avoid them at virtually all costs and have successfully done so for 20 years). Dad once told me of the time he was fighting a street tough about 50 years ago and the fight went to the ground. The guy got on top of my dad and started forcing his beefy forearm into my dad's face, really crushing his head down into the pavement. My dad said he used his only remaining defense--his teeth. He bit down until he felt a good healthy "crunch".

That street tough bawled like a little boy, the fight was over on the spot.

Ah, Your Father made a split second decision to live. Had he not "Bitten" this man, he could have been dead. Your dad is a wise man.

    Take care Little Fauss

My dad is a survivor. And very lucky.

At 18, he plowed his Harley head on into a car at 60 mph--and lived.
