    Rafael,

I would be very surprised if Touro U. would not accept your research area. They seem to be very open-minded and flexible, and as far as I can tell they will work hard to find a supervisor for you. PM me and I will send you some contact information.

    :)

Any comparisons between North Central U. and Touro U.?

The tuition seems a little less at NCU compared to TUI ($15K vs. about $26K); but now that they are RA (is this true?), the tuition might go up?!

Marko: "Any comparisons between North Central U. and Touro U.?"

Well, obviously Touro has been around longer (at least in B&M form) than NCU and probably has more recognition. Beyond that, however, I couldn't begin to compare the two other than to reiterate the availability of a specialization in financial management at the Ph.D. level at NCU (which seems to sort of track the proposal for your diss).

Marko: "The tuition seems a little less at NCU compared to TUI ($15K vs. about $26K); but now that they are RA (is this true?), the tuition might go up?!"

Indeed it might! Then again, tuition at NCU would have to increase dramatically to equal that of Touro (like in excess of 70%).

    Tuition at NCU

Just called NCU and spoke to an academic advisor. The tuition is still $250 per credit, or $15K for the PhD program (post-MBA). According to the advisor, the tuition is locked in once the program is started (very nice, but is this true?). They are apparently talking about a tuition increase to $300-350 per unit in the next few months, but there are no definite plans.

    :)

Yes, it appears the tuition is "locked in" but only if you pay the entire tuition in full for the program prior to starting (i.e. write out a check for the $15k).

    NCU web site:

"Option 1: Payment in Full for Program Prior to Beginning Courses.

No tuition increase during the program provided Learner maintains continuous enrollment.

Option 2: Payment for each Semester Prior to Beginning That Semester.

Payment each semester is based on the number of units enrolled in for that semester using the current tuition rate.

Option 3: One Down Payment plus Equal Monthly Payments.

This no-interest, no-fee plan is designed so Learners complete the degree and payments at about the same time. One down payment of $500 and monthly payments thereafter. The amount of monthly payments is based on the number of units taken in each semester. The monthly payments continue through each successive semester so there is no delay in enrolling for courses."

    $15K

Homer, can I borrow $15K from you?

    :D

    Just kidding!

    GOOD NEWS

Touro U. accepted me into their PhD program, and found my research subject acceptable as well.

Perhaps it was good after all that CSU rejected my research area, as this is probably a better deal. It seems that a PhD is a better title (more recognizable) than a DBA, even though the content of the programs may be very similar. Also, getting the degree at a U.S.-based RA school is probably preferable over a "foreign" school (probably will raise less questions later).

I did consider NCU, because it is a little cheaper (and now RA), but I will probably go for TUI. The feedback from members on this board seems to indicate that they entusiastically like TUI and the PhD program, and I think it is important how one feels about a school / program.
    Cheers.

    Second thoughts: NCU vs. TUI

I checked out NCU more extensively today, and it does seem like a viable option. The specialization in Finance at NCU seems to be more fitting to my subject area than the more general classes at TUI (which does not have a specialization in Finance).

Just have to figure out NCU's policy about tuition increase. Note that payment option 3 (see in a post above) does not specify that it is using current tuition rate to calculate the payments (whereas Option 2 does specify this). This seems to imply that payment is calculated based on the tuition rate that is in effect at the commencement of the PhD program. I will try to clarify this with NCU.

    :)

    Tuition at NCU

O.k., I found out that tuition at NCU is not locked in with payment option 3.

Secondly, as anticipated, they are increasing the tuition, from $250 to $300 per unit (effective May 1st) now that they are RA! Following is an e-mail I received regarding tuition increase.

I'm now a student at NCU

    Hi,

It's been a long journey, and I haven't kept up with updating you at DI. I ultimately decided to go for NCU PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Financial Management.

I started in May, just taking one class (Information Research Strategies). So far so good. The program seems very flexible, sufficiently engaging without being overwhelming.

I got a little behind in the class, and they automatically gave me a 2 week extension. Then I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks, and a leave of up to 4 weeks between semesters doesn't count as a break in the program. Wow!

Perhaps I should start a thread as a diary throughout the program?!

Are there any other members of this board in the PhD-BA program?

    Cheers.

    :)

I'm seriously considering enrolling in the Criminal Justice Administration concentration, and would be very interested to hear your experiences and impressions of the program.

I also made the decision to complete my doctorate at NCU. My first class starts this week. They have made frequent contact by email and I'm satisified that there's enough support there to see me through.
