Redemption Seminary, affiliated with Faithlife, is now accredited by DEAC (see here). One question is whether their cooperation with Kairos University is over since they no longer advertise their partnership. It would seem that this relationship merely served as a pathway to an accredited graduate degree. Additionally, Redemption's handbook implies a forthcoming doctoral program. My guess is a DMin or perhaps a DEdMin.

The Seminary has a good name (Catholic or Liturgical vibe). Hopefully the doctorate is something other than a DMin. DMin is sort of like a DBA in that it began showing up everywhere. An DEdMin is offered by fewer schools. I believe Southern Baptist Seminary offers it. A Doctor of Education in Ministry would make them stand out a bit among doctoral options.

I have the option to do a DEdMin instead of a DMin at SBTS. Its a mere five credit difference from what I'm doing now, consisting of pedagogy and educational theology courses. I'm not persuaded of its usefulness and I only have a year and a half to go.

It is nice that you have the option if you choose. There are fewer Doctor of Education in Ministry (DEdMin) degrees and I am thinking you could get more bang for your buck out of the "Doctor of Education" part. But I could be wrong.

Good luck with your program regardless! SBTS is a well respected school.

Thanks! On the verge of finishing my last seminar.

Not having looked into either degree closely, what would be the pathways for you after those two degrees? Would both permit you to teach at a seminary? Are there roles that one would permit you to do that the other would not?

I understand that the DMin and DEdMin are professional degrees designed to enhance one's practice in ministry. Most of the DMin/DEdMin students I know are already committed to a ministerial vocation, whether pastoral ministry, administration of a Christian school or parachurch ministry, overseas missions, etc. I suppose the pathways would mainly consist of further advancement in one's preexisting vocation. Additionally, a DMin/DEdMin usually opens the door for adjunct work as a side hustle. A few transition into full-time higher ed down the line.

In my experience, teaching at a seminary often depends on whether one has established himself as an experienced churchman who has expertise in something. So it depends on the man, his abilities, and his experience. That tends to be true for PhD holders as well. More likely, perhaps, are those with a DMin who teach at a college, whether a Bible college or university.

    I haven't found any.
