...says college accreditation 'cartel' unconstitutional https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/desantis-sues-biden-administration-says-college-accreditation-cart Sometimes I wonder if this guy has any common sense!
Right. And he has a base that eats that up and I don't like him, or the base. Here's another reason why I don't like him. I have quite a few more... https://www.hrc.org/press-releases/gov-desantis-signs-slate-of-extreme-anti-lgbtq-bills-enacting-a-record-shattering-number-of-discriminatory-measures-into-law But he's in Florida. I'm here. It's not perfect here - but at least he's THERE and I don't have to worry about him. YMMV
@chrisjm18 BTW Chris - speaking of LGBTQ issues, as I was, above, have you seen this about your "beloved Kenya," as you put it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Kenya
Seems to be - but story is all over the place. Try here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/06/22/ron-desantis-sues-biden-administration-blasts-college-accreditation-cartel/70347997007/
I've been to Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Uganda. The only country without laws against same sex is Rwanda. The only one I wouldn't visit again is Uganda. Jamaica is still considered one of the most homophobic places on Earth. It's still the place I love more than anywhere in this world, and I'll still be going there in a few days. I hope you get the point!
BTW, unlike some travelers, I read about every country before I visit, including LGBTQ+ issues. I tend to ignore the U.S. State Department's warning relative to crime since the U.S. is no more safer than these destinations.
Some of those warnings are really strange. The CDC warns about typhoid and hantavirus in Dominica. Neither is there. They also still warn about Zika, even though I haven't heard about anyone there having that for more than five years.
When I was planning my trip to Nigeria, I got yellow fever and typhoid vaccines based on the CDC's recommendation. I ended up going to East Africa first, which doesn't require those unless you're coming from a country with yellow fever cases. The vaccines costs me hundreds of dollars because insurance will not cover them since they are not required vaccines for Americans. Instead, they are travel vaccines. Additionally, took malaria tablets to East and West Africa. But when I go to East Africa in August, I won't take any because I plan to be there for long. Let's see how it goes.
Living where I do, I am not overly impressed with State Department warnings about Mexico. Having said that...it's a mistake to think one is perfectly safe in Northern Mexico. There's essentially no civil government outside of major cities and inside of those cities things can get very dicey very quickly. The drug wars are still with us and U.S. citizens can be caught in the crossfire.
It is pretty bad here! The premier's priorities are paving over previously protected greenbelt land, turning a waterfront park in the provincial capital into an ultra-luxury elite private spa, and accumulating a $22 billion slush fund with little accountability. The provincial capital's mayor recently resigned after being caught taking a much younger subordinate as a mistress. The premier is trying to install as mayor his political ally, the former police chief. While he was police chief homicides reached record levels, a serial killer targeted the gay community, and an incel angry at women committed a mass killing. Boycott of Ontario when?
What the Premier's policies have done to schools, hospitals and other health care facilities is even more abysmal. Why voters chose a Community College dropout and alleged drug dealer * as their leader, TWICE, I can't fathom. Dismay and astonishment -- all I can say. * Here: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/globe-investigation-the-ford-familys-history-with-drug-dealing/article12153014/
Incidentally, apologies to all Canadians for my insensitive failure to write "Reign of Terror" in French as well as English. But I don’t speak French.
