I think many of us probably want to pursue a doctorate for various reasons and likely have the academic chops to succeed. Cost is a barrier for many. Time commitment is a barrier for many more. 25-30 hours per week for years is a lot, especially if one already has a job and a family they'd like to keep.

This is exactly why I am not pursuing a doctorate degree. I know I have the academic ability to succeed in a doctoral program but my twin boys are 6 and my daughter is 4. I work 40+ hours per week and I also teach at the community college. Trying to take in a doctoral program just does not fit into the 14ish hours per day I am awake.

The only way I’d be able to is quitting my job and taking on a PhD or DBA full-time…and that’s not gonna happen.

I like your thinking, Josh. You have a great education, experience and fine reasoning ability for the complex challenges of work and academic study. But when it comes down to your personal life and family, you know right away there's just one criterion: you have to do what makes sense. And you invariably find it. Props and kudo's as usual. Admirable.
