Liberty just posted this on Facebook.

It was, literally, fake news about Liberty University: "Reached by phone on Thursday, [SACS President Belle] Wheelan, a former secretary of education for Virginia who also once served as the president of Central Virginia Community College, said the commission’s spokesperson had confused Liberty with the University of South Carolina." See here, the good reporting by Richard Chumney of the Lynchburg News & Advance: https://www.newsadvance.com/news/local/liberty-university/contradicting-earlier-account-liberty-s-accreditor-says-it-has-not/article_4e385ed2-0431-5f8d-b849-e7837a1c65fa.html ALSO CORRECTION FROM (AP): "Johnson previously told AP on two occasions that the commission sent a letter to the Lynchburg, VA, school asking for more information about the news reports. Johnson later said she had misspoken and that no letter has been sent. See here for AP: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/national-business/article235476352.html

"Reached by phone, Wheelan, a former secretary of education for Virginia who also once served as the president of Central Virginia Community College, said the commission’s spokesperson had confused Liberty with the University of South Carolina."

In fairness, though, the names are nearly identical.

We all know that in order to be a real university, a school has to be in a football bowl game.

And there's Liberty, in the Cure bowl (the what??) on this coming Saturday Dec 21, playing Georgia Southern. 11:30 AM PST/2:30 PM EST, CBSSN

    Here's the description

"The doctoral degree will be unique and give graduates an advantage over programs at other institutions, Horstemeyer said. “Unlike other collegiate doctoral programs, ours will focus on a holistic approach to the validation of the theoretical model — we are combining theory development, computational methods, and experiments to allow our graduates to stand out in a very competitive marketplace.”

Appreciate the updates you give chris, love hearing the new additions Liberty adds.

Liberty's football program is doing great (historic accomplishments), as is there basketball program which won a march madness game last year and is 12-0 this year, about to be ranked in the AP Top 25. This is why I will always recommend Liberty over other options: It has big D1 athletics which instills student pride, a school of medicine and law school, a 1.4+ billion dollar endowment, big time commencement speakers - Vice President Pence in 2019 and former President Jimmy Carter the year before, and a ton of affordable online/residential programs.

It seems they've also got a very good women's soccer team.

    Here's the latest: https://www.liberty.edu/residential/engineering/doctoral/engineering/
    Degree completion plan: https://www.liberty.edu/media/1270/DENR-PHD-R.pdf

This is a residential program that allows you to transfer up to 42 doctoral credits.
    • You will graduate with 3 published articles and at least 1 conference presentation to strengthen your résumé.
    • 50% of your assistantship will be dedicated to research.

"If you are interested in advanced fields of engineering, applied physics, materials engineering, material science, and system design, then this Ph.D. in Engineering degree is for you. "

The above piece makes it seem pretty diverse and customizable. The featured courses sound a lot like materials science. The pdf of the course list is essentially blank. I'm guessing that's because it's customizable. It's looking like they are aiming at versatility.
