This question has probably been answered already but I couldn't find the right thread.

First off, I'm an undergraduate of BsC Computer Engineering (2 years) and I'm looking to continue my degree in a different field (English / Linguistics). I've recently finished my CELTA at International House Bangkok and so far that's the only valid qualification that I have. So, my problem is most schools in Asia are looking for a degree nowadays and I can't have a work permit without one. So that's one of the reasons why I want to study.

I'm currently looking at UoL's BA in English. I've read that the exams are difficult and it's literally an on-your-own study with little help to expect from the school itself. I think I can handle that. However, I'm also looking at other schools/universities that offer English or Linguistics or related to teaching English as a second language degrees that can be accepted by employers in Asia and EU.

I maybe able to save around 400-600 USD / month so my options are quite limited in terms of tuition cost.

Does anyone know an online university/college that matches my needs?

If there's already a thread about this, I would appreciate it if you can just give me the link.

I just saw this site today and joined because of its very informative topics and responses. TIA!

Whenever issues of cost arise it's useful to consider UNISA. You'll find the costs quite low and the school's reputation relatively high. Exams take place at testing centers so you'll need to check to see if there's one near you.

I'll definitely consider it. It also has creative writing. Thank you for the info, Kizmet!

Northwest University offers an online degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. From what I know about the school, their online programs are very good and it is a fully accredited university. As far as I know the cost is also very affordable. It sounds like this program is related to the field you are trying to get into.

Why are you spamming the board with Northwest University? There are many colleges that are much cheaper.

Sanantone, do you have any suggestions?

It's actually MA in TESOL, I'm looking for a BA in Linguistics / English. Thanks for the info though!

The American Public University System charges $270 per credit hour, and that includes books. Columbia College charges $275 per credit hour, but neither of these are as cheap as UNISA in South Africa.

You're right. I think UNISA charges no more than 1,000 USD per year.

Hi Kizmet. I was wondering if you can help me with this. I want to apply for Honours in Applied Linguistics but it looks like it has an NQF level of 8. Does this mean that I have to finish the a whole BA Degree first (e.g. Creative Writing) to be able to qualify for Applied Linguistics? or is there another way around it? I would appreciate any thoughts about it. Thank you!
