After completing the MBA and MSc. in Strategic Planning, I decided last year to just go for it--take the research exams (IBR 1-3), and start the dissertation for the DBA. I proposed a topic in May and was assigned a mentor (Dr. William Wallace). My dissertation proposal is now going to the EBS research committee for review in the July meeting. I imagine I will be getting approval after requested modifications by this fall at the latest--and move forward from there. So far, the feedback has been insightful, and it has been a great experience. I am glad I decided to just go for it. It wasn't that difficult a decision since I had all of the coursework out of the way anyway.
Great news! What subject area are you focusing on? Do you know if Heriot-Watt offer research opportunities in business concentrations such as information systems?
I am sure you could research any area of interest providing you tie it to business in some way....I am focusing on the field of project management.
Great news. I met Dr. Wallace when I was an on-campus student in Edinburgh. He's a great guy and gives good advice. Since this is dissertation number 2 for you I'm sure it'll be a walk in the park.
Fingers crossed, I will get my IBR3 results next week and be just a few months behind you!! Working on reading up articles now, pre-planning my Research Proposal! Glad to see you are progressing nicely. Did you work on your own for a while before you signed up for the six-month mentor phase?
Congratulations in achieving this milestone for your 7th degree and 2nd doctorate. It looks like second doctorates are starting to become a trend here. Rich Douglas just completed his second doctorate. Any other degree collector going for a second doctorate around here?
