Is a B.A in psychology a behavioral science too because I read the job description on DFACA and it said a degree in behavioral science isn't psychology behavioral science?

Psychology is a behavioral science, but it's not the same as a degree in behavioral science. Behavioral science is a broader term that encompasses psychology, sociology, and anthropology. A behavioral science degree program is interdisciplinary.

Thanks i can still work in child welfare and be a specialist to counsel children i asked my DFACS which is under georgia department of family and children services she told me she thinks dfacs now hires people with a degree in psychology but she forwarded my question to the local person i have seen people with psychology degrees do some form of work like just counseling and doing assessments to children and seeing if they are abused and the counselor passes it over to a social worker

    La,
I have worked in social services, specifically with adolescents and latency age children for the better part of the last 15 years (since my early 20's). Some advice, first you don't really need a degree to get started in the field. If I were you I would get into a program that treats abused children as a per diem or temporary worker; or another option that was popular in Massachusetts was working for a human service staffing agency. This will give you a taste for the field. Another option that many of these programs have is to get hired as a peer mentor / counselor. Having been the victim of abuse yourself , many places will have you come in to speak to their clients / residents about how you have learned coping strategies which have allowed you to be successful in life. This will also open doors to network with mental health professionals who will often help you with advice on available career paths / degree choices. This will aid you in deciding on which degree would be right for you. Second piece of advice, if you really want to get into this field and move up you need a Masters degree; 95% of the time this means in a licensure eligible field i.e. - LCSW, LPC, or LMFT. Typically the most mobile degree is in Social Work. I worked for the medical school side of a flagship state university system for over a decade and every therapist we had was an LCSW / LICSW even though an LPC or LMFT would have been eligible for the positions and there were several interviewed. What this means for you is if you are going to go for a bachelors - get it in social work! This will knock off 30 credits for the Masters and you will be able to get your internships / practicum hours started earlier. There are several notable MSWs available online from the likes of Boston University, USC, etc. Also, one other thing, once you get hired into a permanent position into the field, many employers will reimburse your tuition for classes. Every agency I have worked for has always had a generous tuition benefit, so just something to think about. I wish you luck with what you want to do, it is a rewarding field.
