I'm in your camp on this and may even take it a little farther. It's a force of habit for me to backward plan. I look at when a paper is due and in my daily planner set aside time daily or every two days to put in time dedicated to the task. I aim to be completed the day before the deadline but still usually find myself making small, last minute changes before submission. It really is a low stress way to knock out schoolwork. As with all things in life there is a downside. By being super-organized, my wife points out, I usually spend a lot more total time than necessary to get things done. It is worth the tradeoff to me because I prefer to avoid the stress but maybe others find the necessity of adhering to a written schedule even more stressful.

My style is sorta like this. I plan and plan and plan. I read and read and read. Half the time I've got most of the paper written in my head and somebody says, "You haven't even started?" and I just smile because for me, the actual writing is the easy part. The hard part is the research and the basic conceptualization. Once you've got it straight in your head, putting it on paper is a cinch. To me that's not procrastination.

I'm like that too, except I can't keep it all in my head. I do all my research and put that into an outline, get that all organized, and then write the paper around that. But, like you said, the writing is the easy part. I think many people make it harder on themselves by skipping steps. Not saying the OP does this but often, people don't want to go to the trouble of doing an outline; they just want to get the paper over with. The problem with that is the fact that it makes writing the paper excruciating. When you go through all the proper steps, paper writing is easy. I actually enjoy it. Being a fast typist helps too.

An hour to spare? Then why didn't you wait a little longer to start? :pat:
