    Jennifer,

You're hilarious and funny. Well, I have one for you. Why even cook when you can have space food (AKA air) with zero fat calorie.:tongue2:

Clearly you were not aware of the drop fee - is that something that was introduced prior to your enrolment or after? I would want to find out! I've dropped courses @ FHSU and have not had to pay a drop fee (as of yet!)...

Don't waste your time regretting your decision to quit NCU. You made the right choice. I know of a few people who actually completed their master's degree at NCU but do not list them on their resumes because of NCU's reputation;you only wasted 6 credits with them. Consider yourself lucky that you flushed NCU!

I would tell NCU that I would not pay their fees. If NCU insists, I would send two letters of complaint. One of the letters would go to the Arizona board of education and the other to NCU's regional accrediting agency. I don't know if these letters would do any good but I would feel wonderful after I had written them.

As an NCU alumni, I still have access to the NCU website, so I checked the NCU handbook and found that both fees ($30 enrollment fee & $50 drop fee) are listed under "course catalog" (look under "tuition and fees").

Capella is reportedly a fine university, but they are significantly more expensive than just about all other schools, unless you take the maximum number of credits allowed. Thus, if you take one class or four classes, the price remains the same. Most adults who are working full-time only have the time to dedicate to one class (at a time), which suddenly makes Capella's tuition extraordinarily high. However, if you can take four classes at a time, then Capella's tuition becomes extraordinarily low.

Regarding online learning methodologies: I'm also currently a graduate student at American Military University and the learning methodology is the same as NCU, U0P and Washington Adventist University e.g. you have to teach yourself and there aren't any live lectures and you're on your own. That's the way it is with all external (online) courses that's I've attended. There is absolutely no difference. However, I've only attended four different online universities to form this conclusion. At all of these schools, the term "online" is another version of "correspondence school" i.e. all of the work is done via online correspondence instead of via in-residence lectures.

It is what it is. :naughty:

I paid a $40 drop fee secveral years ago. Back then NCU provided great service and I was on a joint ERAU/NCU Ph.D. program, but dropped out when I left the company that was paying my tuition. The fee was listed either in the catalog or on the web site.

I tried that at Capella, but they would take almost nothing in transfer. It was going to cost me around $65K for the doctorate I wanted. Yikes! I would recommend that one look carefully into that before signing up.

The graduate certificate at UF was the same as AMU and NCU. When I enrolled in the MS program (an extension of the certifcate) they changed it to live lectures you need to attend twice a week. The first format was still called "online"

I am very sorry about your situation. I was signed up by NCU for a course I had obsolutely no interest in. The course fee refunded in full but I was charge a $30 enrollment fee. I never protested. I was a bit tired from some personally issues; also I let it go as a part of the price for my stupidity. I was warned by some caring people on this forum to stay away from NCU.

Did they wait for 6 months before they billed you, like they did to me?

Although you will probably have to just pay the fee to get NCU off your back, you don't have to just take it. There are some things you can do to help to put an end to such under-handed billing practices.

I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In addition, it wouldn't hurt to write a nice letter to NCU's accrediting agency as well to let them know what's going on. Finally, you can write a summary of your experience on ripoffreport.com too.

Now how can Degree Info be a ripoff? It doesn't cost users anything.

My suggestion is to pay it if you owe it.

If the drop fee was in effect when you started at the University, then you clearly owe the fee. Same for the enrollment fee.

However, if you did not agree to be bound by those policies, just ignore the correspondence; it isn't large enough to be turned over to collections and appear on your credit report.

Yea, it was there and I honestly owe them the money, so I will pay. I'm just ticked because I paid a lump sum up front and that sum should have included at least the enrollment fee. The drop fee is not right, but there is nothing I can do about either. Why did they wait 6 months to bill me? Lame, lame, lame.

Seems like I remember some wise sage on this board saying to me "Watch out for the merchant scholars". Hmmm, who was that? Seems like he had the initials of DW.
