    Thank you very much!

I should also add a caveat of it's a Methodist school (if that bothers anyone), although the program is nondenominational.

Here's the press release from a few days ago:

Master of Arts in Theological Studies Now Offered Online at Southwestern College Professional Studies
    September 17, 2010
Southwestern College Professional Studies is now offering a master of arts in theological studies (MATS) degree, an online research-based degree in Christian theology.

“This degree is designed to serve those who seek to build on the academic preparation in religion gained in their undergraduate studies,” says Matt Thompson, assistant professor of religious studies at Southwestern. “The program provides preparation for doctoral studies in theological disciplines; for service as a staff pastor of education in a church setting; for teaching at a Christian high school, Christian preparatory academy, a Bible institute or college, or as an adjunct at liberal arts colleges, universities, or seminaries.”

According to Thompson, the curriculum includes a broad foundation in both biblical and historical studies, but focuses on systematic, spiritual and constructive theology, including components in the philosophy of religion and ethics. The program culminates in the production of a master’s thesis which constitutes an original contribution to theological scholarship.

“It is open and accommodating to learners from all Christian traditions,” Thompson says.

Applications and course enrollment for this new graduate degree at Southwestern College Professional Studies are currently being accepted. Classes begin Monday, Sept. 27. All classes for the degree will be offered in six-week sessions online.

For more information about the degree, contact Southwestern College Professional Studies at (316) 684-5335 or e-mail [email protected].

I plan on opening a side business in nutritional consulting/counseling from a faith-based viewpoint, am interested in lay ministry with the elderly, and I would like a solid grounding in church history and practical theological foundations for personal satisfaction :D As of right now, no plans for an MDiv or DDiv, but that could change :)

Great! People will flock to you because of this faith based foundation, trust me.

    It will change (Smile).

As long as the DDiv is on the same line as this degree you will pursue it. Before looking into the DA degree program I was looking into a DDiv program, but they did not stress nondenominational.

I've looked this degree over, and I like it a lot! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I wish it had more Bible courses, but everything else about it is great. It's in my top three or four choices now.

Whatever I do, I need to do it soon; I'm in my middle 50's, and time is running out for me.

That's all good. BTW it does not say, "Ph.D. in Biblical Studies". Or am I being too wordy?
