Speaking of free schools what about University of the People, how's that going?

Nowhere, and fast. Check out Steve Forester's blog entry about it. Sorry, I don't have the link, but you should be able to find it through a search.

Nations gets its degree-granting authority from the State of Louisiana, which (like many states) exempts religious institutions from state regulation.

However, the religious exemption only applies to institutions that offer religious degrees exclusively. If Nations offered secular degrees, they would forfeit their religious exemption, and would be required to seek state licensure, just like any secular school. In the 1990s, Louisiana Baptist University tried to start a secular business program, but then had to shut it down for this reason.

From what I understand: As far as the fees for accreditation, the cost of DETC is mainly in upfront costs. After that it is based on a percentage of what the school charges. Thus, if the cost of tuition is 100 bucks a year, DETC would get 10 dollars.

Second, as for libraries, a DALRO agreement will fix that problem. An online resource library, such as operated by Liberty University and SATS, would easily, and near freely, fix that problem.

Third, the professor problem is not really a problem at all. Many of us edu-mucated (haha) Christian folks will be glad to donate our services. I am currently finishing up my M.Div. with Liberty, at which point I will be hitting the ThM. I plan on volunteering to teach some classes/mentor students. There are many, many more like me, who believe strongly in what N.U. is doing.

As far as the rest, from what I have been told, NU submitted their initial readiness assessment in 2009. It was "marked up" as it were. They made the changes (the sweeping changes that NU students saw late last year), and resubmitted. They made it on the list, but there were still a couple of things that needed correction. Thus, sometime around NOW, they were supposed to be resubmitting their finalized assessment. I do not know whether they have done so. If they have, although they are not on the list, they could still be considered in the January meeting.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi

Indeed that does help, Havensdad. Clears up the mystery (to me) as to why Nations was on and then off the DETC applicants list.
My assumptions were obviously wrong - and I'm glad they were.

I wish this fine school well in the rest of the accreditation process -and beyond, of course.

    Thanks for the insight. :)
