This is just my favorite of the current bunch of DETC applicants. That doesn't mean that it's the best school in the world at what it does.

I like the fact that it's a non-profit writer's association that's doing this. It isn't just another online enterprise selling high-demand degrees as if they were cigarettes or cell-phones. These people actually seem to care about the subject that they're offering. That's important to me when I'm judging schools.

And there's something else. I think that it is cool when museums (American Museum of Natural History), research laboratories (Cold Spring Harbor and Sanford-Burnham), hospitals (Sloan Kettering), auction houses (Christies), test pilot schools (NTPS), policy think tanks (the Rand Corporation), theater companies (American Conservatory Theater) and similar non-university institutions offer specialized degree programs in their areas of strength. I'd like to see DETC and the other accreditors facilitating that.

The length of time they take to post a decision is annoying. Usually some over exuberant school has leaked something by now...

Degree Info needs a DETC insider. :)

Deep Springs was the topic of the most popular 'puzzler' question I submitted here: the only regionally-accredited school whose mailing address is in a different state from the state in which the school is located.

Their cost are not that bad, they shoot up with them gaining DETC.

    Cost Overview
Portfolio System $750 (for first degree program)
Tuition $4800 ($100/mo. for four years)
    Course Materials $75 per course

Just to add to that..it breaks down to about $40 a credit hour.

I have been looking at some of the organizations applying for accreditation, and some of them are quite humorous. Apparently Clayton only has until next year to get accredited, or they will be shut down by the state of Alabama.

The only other one I saw listed that gained DETC accreditation was

    Northwest Institute of Literary Arts
    in Washington.

I couldn't find any others in their database.

DETC finally posted the results of their accreditation meeting, the only two schools that received accreditation are the two already noted above:

Antioch School of Church Planting and Leadership Development
    Northwest Institute of Literary Arts

There are only three schools now remaining on the applicants list:

Clayton College of Natural Health, Birminglam, AL
    Nations University, West Monroe, LA
Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary, Newburgh, IN

This seems to indicate that several schools that were on the list are no longer pursuing accreditation with the DETC? Ie:

American Fitness Professionals and Associates, Manahawkin, NJ
    UNAD Florida, Weston, FL
    University of Fairfax, Vienna, VA

(They are still listed on the "New Applicants" page on DETC's website but it looks like that page just hasn't been updated yet)

    Teehee.

But I wouldn't get my hopes up, they'll just move offshore, or find another state where they can start the clock ticking again. They've got too much of a money machine going to just let it fold up.
