My brother was a night security guard for FedEX while he was in law school. He was either studying or on the phone (recreational purposes) pretty much his whole shift. :)

I like Rich's suggestions... However, I'm thinking you'll get the best employment networking effect from your local brick and mortar school. Your DL peers are typically too geographically dispersed to provide anything but moral support for your job search.

There is bad news for these degrees in my area - In my local paper today my local school board is laying off 15% of its staff including psychologisats, and librarians

Ouch...In the area I live a huge number of lawyers from firms were laid off last month. School teachers also in my district were let go too. I don't think there is a safe career anywhere.

    FYI for anyone interested:

The Dept. of Labor's Career Voyages website is all about selecting and preparing for new careers. I've gotten kind of addicted to it. It is an extensive database of occupations and career fields with projections of which are in demand and decline.

Electricians, plumbers and healthcare workers are usually safe.

Funeral home direction and/or mortuary science. It's probably the safest job out there. There will always be a need for those who handle funerals, and there is no shortage of business. There are several job areas at funeral homes: funeral services, sales, embalming/cremation.

Licensing requirements vary from state-to-state, but in most cases no more than an associate degree is required. St. Petersburg College offers an online associate degree program in funeral services which can be completed in 12 months if a student has already completed all of the Gen Ed requirements.

Right now it is real hard to find a safe job. Even electricians and plumbers are being laid off in my area.

Health care is an area I would look into if I was looking to start a career.

Tough audience though... How can you get your clients to laugh at your jokes? You'd have to be one heck of a stand-up comedian.

I guess you could work on your jokes until you could knock 'em dead ... :) More business!
