What's the cheapest completely online school that offers a Master's degree that meets the educational requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California? Regional or National accreditation optional but useful.
Be careful about graduate degrees in the mental health field from California. Many (most?) of those "recognized" by the state of California DO NOT TRANSFER to ANY other state!
You might want to consider an MSW instead, because as Warguns stated, there may be transfer issues with the MFT or MFCC, and I believe in many states, MSWs have a greater ability to get reimbursement than masters level psychologists. Also, I don't know whether it applies to masters level degrees, but if APA accreditation is as important at the masters level as it is at the doctoral level, I think only Fielding and maybe Institute for Transpersional Psychology are APA accredited. CIIS is also APA addredited, but I don't think you can do their masters program by DL alone.
MFT v MSW Most states regulate Marriage and Family Therapists these days http://www.aamft.org/resources/Online_Directories/boardcontacts.asp I don't know how much reciprocity there is among states so I don't know how much a California license would restrict it's holder. There's no doubt that the MSW is a more recognized and respected degree but there's only one semi-distance MSW program in California. For the Cally MFT, APA or even regional or national accreditation isn't an issue. Only California BBS approval matters. I don't know about other states. Conclusion: the MSW is a better choice, particularly if you might leave the Forest-Fire State. However, I'm looking for a very cheap and quick distance MFT program for a friend.
