    you guys are awesome.

Well, the exam kicked my butt, but maybe my professor grades on a curve :) I think I did ok overall but I'd be surprised if ANYONE in my class was well enough prepared unless they dug into the dark corners of every single reading assignment, all the web links ("resources") and the "suggested" reading the TAs posted...."suggested"....yeah right. I have a MUCH better appreciation for what they will be looking for on the final. (every word on every thing- simple.)

On an aside: I'm a teacher, and so I took an "evaluations" course way back on how to write tests- and usually most people write terrible exams. BUT, I wanted to say that my professor is VERY good at writing exams. I'm quite impressed. I won't go on and on, but they really wanted to know what we knew- in a knowledge kind of way- not parrot kind of way. It was nice. (note: I thought I knew something about psychology, but I actually know nothing! LOL)

All you have to do is to look at the hurdles that both of the Obama's went through. If you read their Bios you will come to learn that their road to sucess wasn't paved for them, but they both had to strive against all odds to get to the level they have reached today...

So again I say to you don't sweat the difficulty of the program, just do it.

I didn't want to turn this post into anything political, I just wanted to encourage you to go foward and be great.

As for my fellow poster Randell 1234, you are correct Bush graduated Harvard w MBA 1975 but was better known for his attendance at Yale BA 1968.

So it will be interesting to see who he picks for Attorney General and for the Supreme Court (and his White House Attorney).

I'm embarrassed to write my mid term score after all my ranting - but I passed. Looks like I might pass this beast yet....now onto my term paper.

    Jennifer:

    Do you live in Mass?

I was curious what are your plans for the residency requirements?

I was very interested in taking the management track courses, but it worries me about the 6 classes required to graduate (24 hours).

I figured the 5 years is great-- but as a single person I was worried about the expense of trying to live in Cambridge (or within a commutable distance) for at least 3 semesters. My current job (and the bulk of my promotions would allow for me to work either remotely or in our offices in the Northeast) but this still would mean trying to find a place to stay while supporting a mortgage at home.

I figured I would take 2-3 classes, see what I thought (who knows I could hate it) and if I wanted it bad enough I could figure it out I guess. On the positive side, I thought maybe I could beg colleagues up there to let me hang out for a few months renting a room or sthg.

    Thanks Jennifer for your insight.

I was considering the dorms too-- but thought the 5kish price was WOW! *lol*

I figure take a course one at a time (to do the 3 will be at least a year and a half) and then decide along the way. I think it would be a great compliment to my MIS degree I will be working on---

I also had a plan of using the financial aid and saving the remainder of it as well as my company's tuition reimbursement to fund the residency portions if I really want to pursue this avenue if necessary.

I should say that I'm planning on the dorm for sure my first time out- the second time?.....ummm we will see. Maybe by then I will have a better understanding of my options- but for now- I don't even want to think about it. I also will do the meal plan and eat on campus. The price isn't listed yet, I'm going off of what I was told by someone else who stayed on campus. He told me it was $10,000 for 2 classes and his dorm. Since summer classes are around $2500 that puts the dorm estimate at around $5000, but again, the prices will be up in Feb.

You can use financial aid after you gain acceptance as a degree seeking student. The issue for me now (and anyone working on their first 3 classes) is that you are not actually a degree candidate- so no loan deferment and no financial aid loans. If you have work reimbursement, that is awesome, and would be a big bonus.

Thanks Jennifer-- the tuition reimbursement definitely helps to pay for the first 3.

I am hoping that maybe some of my friends and coworkers I work with closely in Mass and New Hampshire may have some options for me as well to save some extra funds.

I guess I will meet that bridge once I get there (even if I do).

Btw, I have listened to a few of the lectures and downloaded one full course that David Malan puts up for free (Computers and the Internet) which is awesome. Figured it would give me something to do before January rolls around.

Excellent point! For anyone who wants to see what the classes are, you can get access to nearly every "first day" lecture as well as several more. You go into the website www.harvard.edu and click into the college "Continuing Education" where you will find the Extension listing. You can search for classes, and by poking around you can find many of the class web pages. (I'm in PSYC E1240 which allows you to watch the first hour if you're interested) Anyway, they don't make it easy to find these, but they ARE there- dozens of them. You just have to dig. If you open a page and it asks for a password, try another page. Almost all the lectures have password protection after the first hour.

Yeah here were the links I used:

    http://www.extension.harvard.edu/2008-09/DistanceEd/offer/

Instead of clicking on Lecture 1, I clicked on Website (by the course I was interested in) and then typically on Lecture Videos (or other links which spoke about videos). In some cases, I was able to get the first two hours.

If anyone is interested in David Malan's Comp Sci courses (which I am in the middle of his Computers and the Internet)

you can find them at http://www.computerscience1.org/lectures and www.davidmalan.com under podcasts.

Good! Thanks for posting that. If someone finds this thread in the future, you may find that link dies after the new schedule posts- but it should work for now.

Just to keep going with my class updates:

I finished my class paper Friday. For all of you master/PhD grads, I'm sure you'll chuckle at this- but APA writing is hard! This was the first time I have written this type of paper, especially one that required this much accuracy (LOL, I'm pretty sure my professor will actually read it, unlike my TESC mentors) I found learning the format style to take up equal or more brain space than the content. But, once I started getting the hang of it, it got better. We needed roughly 15 pages of content, and I think I had about 20 references. Periods, commas, italics, no capitals.....LOL my head hurts. If anyone is wondering, I did my paper on the treatment methods of compulsive hoarding. The Harvard electronic library is awesome by the way- EVERYTHING that I couldn't get through EBSCO at TESC is free-free-free through Harvard.

Now....to get caught back up on lecture to prepare for the final exam!
