They are approved by the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, so they are operating legally. However, while they were founded in 1983 (meaning they are 24 years old), they make no mention of accreditation on their website. So, they are state approved but apparently they are unaccredited.

Ted is correct, they are approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education in California. This means that they can grant degrees in California. However, the fact that they are not accredited by any entity recognized by the U.S. DOE or CHEA is troubling.

They aren't a 'diploma mill' in the sense that they don't just take your money and grant you a degree. From a review of their catalog, it appears they do hold classes and require a masters project for the masters degrees. Tuition costs seem reasonable too. According to their catalog, total cost for their MBA program is $7,170 for 56 quarter units. That is approximately $193 per semester hour.

If it was me, I wouldn't attend SSU simply because they aren't accredited. If I was limited in my choices because of cost, I would attend Amberton University instead of SSU. Amberton's tuition is $200 per semester hour and they are regionally accredited.

Of course, regional accreditation may not be important to you. It is really your decision. I personally don't see anything wrong with SSU from a brief review of their website other than they are not accredited.

I'm reminded of the joke: "So, other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"

Amberton's a great regionally accredited counter-suggestion. There are many others as well.
