So ths message greeted me this morning:

    January 2007

    Dear Ellis Student:

I am writing to inform you of an exciting development concerning a sister institution Cardean University. Effective February 12, 2007 Cardean University will join with Ellis College of NYIT to teach your courses. Beginning with February 12, 2007 term start, all Cardean students registrations will be moved to Ellis College. The impact on Ellis College students is both positive and minimal.

Integrating the students and academic programs of Cardean University into Ellis College are in the best interest of our students because combining the two schools will provide for a larger student population in most programs, resulting in a richer community experience for students inside and outside of the classroom. You may notice some students participating in classroom and social chats who identify themselves as Cardean students.

Once the academic programs of these two institutions are combined the current active population of Ellis College will be 3,956 degree seeking students and 194 certificate seeking students.

The accreditation of Cardean University and Ellis College remains intact; in fact, possibly enhanced. Ellis College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and will maintain that accreditation. Now it also is applying for accreditation from the Distance Education Training Council (DETC) which accredits Cardean University. In other words, Ellis College may become only one of a few schools in the United States that has regional and national accreditation. Ellis College will continue to have degree granting authority through the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

We truly believe the transition of the current academic programs of Cardean University to Ellis College will provide Ellis College and Cardean University students with an outstanding educational experience in a more vibrant institution. As we complete the transition of Cardean University into Ellis College if you have any concerns pleas feel free to contact the Provost and Chief Administrative Officer of Ellis College, Dr. David Harpool at [email protected] or [email protected] .

    Sincerely,

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Cardean Learning Group

    JTS/jbb

Cc: Ray Ryan, Provost of Cardean University
David Harpool, Provost and Chief Administrative Officer, Ellis College/Executive Vice-President Cardean Learning Group
J.. Loomis, Chief Operating Officer, Cardean Learning Group
G.K. Spence, Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Cardean Learning Group"

I looked at Cardean but decided that an RA degree from a local institution was best. Do you think this will hurt the Ellis College NYIT program? Or is this simply a case of NYIT outsourcing their online program to a private company and now aquiring those assests?

Anyhoo - thought you'd all be interested in this latest development

I've just graduated from Ellis College of NYiT and I can say that I'm dismayed by the news. From everything I've been told its to streamline what's left of Cardean's operations. Basically, many of the students have gone through Ellis rather than Cardean in the last two years and they want to take those Cardean students and move them into Ellis's regionally acreddited program. I think, personally, there are to many 4.0's sliding out and this will just make matters worse.

    Hmm ...

Wonder if this has anything to do with the utter lack of response I've gotten to my application for their advertisement seeking core faculty!

NYIT already outsources their online program to a private company -- Ellis College is administered by Cardean Learning, which is the parent company of Cardean University.

Do you feel the NYiT prof's grade too high? I've just felt like my own grades have been a bit inflated. I'm only in my first course and my advisor assured me that this wasn't the case its just that Marketing is meant to be a confidence booster. I don't know if she meant that as a backhanded compliment or has never encountered someone who was concerned because her grades were higher than anticipated.

Meant to be a confidence booster? That alone is ridiculous for a course that attracts credit. It should be meant to teach you Marketing and evaluate your progress to ensure that you've learned it.

    I'm obviously old fashioned....

    Me too!!!!

While I have learned a great deal about marketing in this course I'm pretty sure its because I have no business background what so ever. On the plus side, my prof is awesome and we've had some great discussions via email about marketing and business in general.
