Nice to hear you are still at it with the MBA, GOOD LUCK. Hard work makes for good luck.

    Moodle

How do you like Moodle? I've heard plenty of good things from instructional designers, but nothing from students, whose opinion should be more important.

    RFValve,

Woud you mind saying if you teach at a US school, and what you mean by foreign accounting designation?

I know someone who is completing a CMA at which point will have an MBA (non AACSB) and a CMA and is wondering about the potential of ultimately obtaining an academic position. The person is located in Canada.

I teach at a Canadian school, foreign by means non US or Canadian. I think that a CMA with an MBA has a chance for a non tenure track position but for a tenure track you need a PhD. A PhD in accounting from a decent school would do it. Can a PhD from NCU be hired? I would say that this depends on the experience and research of the individual.

However, this trend might last very short time and by the time you get your PhD is too late. This happened in Information Systems where half of our faculty was given a package to take leave of absence since we hardly have any students.

Interesting......23 posts mostly filled with love but not one comment regarding their (NCU) for-profit status. Especially interesting because some bashers of other unnamed for-profits have commented on this very thread (you know who you are).

Thanks for the info. As a point of interest I know a guy who has been a part time/sessional/adjunct (not sure on the correct terminology) accounting lecturer at a Canadian AACSB school with a BComm (not great GPA) and a CMA (no MBA). It occurs to me that there is a chance you guys teach at the same school so if you know him don't mention it.

I think you also make a valuable point about the trend lasting a short time.

    Thanks for the info.

Are you implying there are shills of NCU here?

I notice that most people seem to like (shill, some call it, I don't) for what they have done or what that they are planing to do. It's called human nature. It's always easier to like the horse you rode in on than the one your neighbor rides.

I don't think there's anything wrong with relaying one's positive experiences. Or negative ones, for that matter. That's a big reason to have the board in the first place, and I think that's what makes it such a valuable resource.

However, as glimeber has rightfully pointed out from time to time, that doesn't mean one should come here and read opinions as a substitute for doing one's own research.

Nope - just calling a spade a spade. I find it interesting that the FP status (of NCU) has been convieeeeeeeeeeeeeently forgotten. If it had been UOP or Capella these 23 posts of love would be 23 posts of criticism, anger, and/or hate. Each of those posts would have blamed all of the troubles of both institutions (and perhaps global warming) on their FP status. This is an example of what I have been saying for months. Some on this group are treated one way and others are treated another even though both are guilty of the very same sin.

I don't care for UoP, but I do think highly of Capella and I'm enrolled at NCU. All three are for-profit schools.

I believe if you perform a search on here you will find a lot of positive and negative statements about many different schools. I remember in the past seeing some bad comments about NCU when the SCUPS thing was going down and I have seen positive comments about UOP and Capella on here as well. Honestly though, positive or negative comments about different schools shouldn't be the basis to attend. Even after hearing the SCUPS situation with NCU I decided to enroll. I didn't attend UOP because they kept calling me all the time.

    Re: Moodle

    I like Moodle very much.

It's quite user-friendy and very convenient. All of the student manuals are online and easily accessible with this program. The outlay of Moodle makes it easy to communicate with other students in the class. I like how the assignments, grades and instructor feeback are presented. I've found that Moodle helps speed-up the process of paper or exam submissions with instructor feedback or comments.

    Hi worthingco,

Do you have a full-time job?
Working on LL.B. and M.B.A. at the same time must be hard.
    How do you handle it?

    Hi.

Yes...I work full-time. I also have a 4-year old child and another on the way. Sometimes it's tough balancing family, professional and academic commitments. But...there's no sense in complaining...nobody will listen anyway ;) Time management is key. If I didn't have to work I'd likely study law & my MBA via traditional means.

I think it's only a matter of time before NCU has it's own "fan" club ;)

No apology necessary. I've enjoyed the "trip" this thread has taken.
