Cost of DETC DBA pilot programs...

The Columbia Southern University's DBA program tuition is around $23K. OUCH! Like anthonylau (see above), I too can only afford around $10K.

Any news on the DETC DBA pilot program, e.g. which schools are particpating and what the tuition costs are?

I would be interested to learn if any of the South African schools demonstrate a willingness to accept someone into doctoral research on the basis of a coursework-only master's. In my discipline, my experience has been that South African doctoral programs are not open to accepting students whose master's work did not entail any thesis element. My experience with the standard of work expected of a PhD student in my department makes this seem like a pretty sensible policy (particuarly for one engaged in research at a distance without the advantages of departmental suport and resources close at hand).

I was accepted into a South African school to work on a thesis only doctorate in business. Because I had completed my MBA many years ago, they were going to require that I take want amount to about 6 units of credit in the area of my thesis topic. I had done no previous work on a masters thesis. Note that SA doctoral students write a thesis but the masters degree requires a dissertation, which is the opposite of how North American schools refer to these projects. In the end, I decided to go with a North American school, but the SA school would have worked out, I believe.

For that money, one could go to Touro University International (TUI)...RA vs. DETC, and PhD vs. DBA (better name recognition)!
