Questions about distance learning and degrees

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of questions about DL. A couple of years ago I finished high school and have worked in all kinds of industries since then. I want to pick up an education again but I don't wanna go to a regular school for it, so I figured DL would be the answer. I would like to get a Bachelor in either business or psychology. There are some things that aren't really clear to me though. These are my questions. (I live in the Netherlands by the way)

1. Credits. How many do you need for an average bachelor?
2. Can credits be obtained my merely learning independently and doing tests like CLEP and DANTES (Which I've just learned about.
3. How much money will it aproximatly cost.
4. And finally, being a fast learner with much time on his hands, how long would it take?

1. 120 semester credits or 180 quarter credits.
2. Yes.
3. I'd say anywhere from 5k to 30k.
4. Took me about a year.

2. There is a guy named JLV on this board and he is from the Netherlands, too. Perhaps you could PM him about any unique difficulties you might find trying to do DL from Holland.

And Steve, the reason I want to learn through DL is that I can decide my own schedule. And secondly, from what I hear it can be a much faster option!?

 

Could I get a degree just as fast if I'd do tests like CLEP, DANTES and GRE and then get the degree on campus here in Holland? Would it also be possible to get such a degree in a year then?

 

That would depend on how many AP, CLEP, DANTES, ECE, TECEP, or other "testing out procedures" credits your Dutch university of choice would accept in transfer.

As for DANTES exams, I would look in Holland (or elsewhere in Europe) for an American military base. These exams are administered from this type of facility. If you can gain a pass to the airbase, you may be in luck with taking these exams.

I live in Belgium and did mostly Clep and Dantes and Exelsior and although I've never been in that Testing Center, they do have one in Shinnen, Holland where you can easily do all 3 of these exams. It's a military base.

I've achieved more than 40 hours already with those exams, but to be honest , a year seems fast to me to get 120hours.
Great though if you can!!!!

 

I too have the problem of being in Europe and wanting to take either Clep or Dantes. I contacted many bases and none were willing to give a civilian a test even though i am an american citizen!!

The testing site in England (MST) is a joke, 2 testing days a year and can only take 2 tests a day- so 4 a year.

The site in Geneva emailed me back and said they no longer test and asked me to pass this on???

Does anyone have any experiance in Europe taking tests here???

Hopefully there are some places(bases) that are willing to test civilians.....
