University of Pretoria allows cartoons in dissertations?

The quality of the writing was never questioned. The criticism was the placing of cartoons in a dissertation. It seems to me that they belong more in book for the general public, not in a "scholarly" dissertation.

It is necessary to reiterate the following:

the University of Pretoria is one of the finest South African universities, fully accredited, a research centre, etc., etc.;

its dissertations--all of them--must meet strict academic standards and, whether one likes a particular dissertation or not, a UP dissertation can be assumed to be a worthwhile academic exercise.

One cannot say the same for:

the thoroughly disreputable ACI "accreditor" promoted by thread-starter;

the ridiculous seminaries promoted by our thread-starter;

his constant expressions of personal animus against reputable posters;

his use of a cartoon as a pretext for attacking the reputation and accreditation of a real university;

his constant ridicule of a religious view espoused by many posters.

This is the behaviour of a shill, recollected in perfect tranquillity.

Once again, the University of Pretoria has as much going for it as the institutions promoted by the thread-starter have going against them.

A cursory review of the respective websites will show this. A review of the SAQA and SAUVCA websites will confirm this. A Daysonian Google search will conclude the comparative enquiry in the overwhelming favour of the University of Pretoria and all its works and all its ways.

In what way did I misunderstand? I mean... I'd like to think -- and I believe I've demonstrated many times over around here -- that I pretty much know my way around an English sentence. Hi all,

I am a graduated from University of Pretoria. I do not see any problem if one use a cartoon to illustrate a point in his thesis. The quality of the research conducted in the University of Pretoria is unquestionable. It is the leading university in SA with excellent reputation.

From my experience there I can say that each PhD thesis is reviewed by two external examiners (mostly from outside Africa) and you cannot graduate unless you publish one (and I heard now they make it two) journal papers in international journals.

Finally, I want to thank uncle janko for his valuable posts.
