I have been actively seeking academic counseling in another thread on this website, http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=153503#post153503 and expressing an opinion regarding a particular school. What I am amazed is that we have people posting on DegreeInfo.Com that can't respect the opinions of others and persist in insulting new people just to prove a point that they are academically superior in some way. Maybe it is because they have they have the designation, "Senior Member" under their User Name.

What ever happened to Freedom of Speech. Now I know what many of you would say, is that certain individuals are just expressing themselves, regardless if they are hurtful to people. I have always known that a particular freedom granted in the Constitution is only implied as long as it doesn't not infringe on the rights of others. Also, what about the Biblical Principle, "Do into others, as you would have them do unto you".

I hope we all can learn a valuable lesson here and learn to respect the values and opinions of our fellow man (woman). We all have feelings. This doesn't give people the right to demean another person.

    Sincerely and Respectfully Submitted:

One of the other DL boards has the following rule:
    • 3. NO CRY BABIES
It seems like a good idea. But then we'd miss posts such as ray1212's.

If you really came here in search of "academic counseling" as you say, then you must have wanted to hear what other people's opinions were, right?

You may not like the fact that the opinions you are receiving are uniformly that Robert de Sorbon is most likely not a legitimate university.

But if you came here in search of our opinions and not to sell RDS, you can't very well object that every opinion you receive that contradicts your own desires is "hurtful" and a lack of respect for you.

OxPecker, I am not crying! I am merely just trying to point out that we need to not be so indignant when trying to prove a point. Let people state their opinion in a positive way, and respond accordingly. In boxing it is illegal to hit below the belt, and that is considered a pretty violent contact sport. Why do people lower themselves to this type of behavior?

BillDayson I am not trying to say I am entirely right regarding Robert de Sorbon University. No one has a monopoly on the word "Right". Also I am not specifically endorsing RDS either, I just like their approach and it seems to work for me. Let me and the other people here have our opinions. Don't allow our differences in opinion cause us to be so critical that we resort to name calling!

It seems to me that you are being afforded the right to free speech (as are others). How do you feel your right to free speech is being infringed?

    Dear Jack Tracey,

What I am trying to say is, we ought to properly address each other and respectfully disagree. There is need to carry on and speak negatively regarding one another if we disagree. Using the analogy of the recent Presidential elections, do we have to use negative campaigning in order to win a point.

It might be allowed under our rights to free speech, but that doesn't make it right. What happened to responding truthful, but without being insulting.

I will say that Freedom of Speech does not allow one to defame someone.

You're not really complaining about "freedom of speech" for yourself. You're merely frustrated by the fact that others enjoy the same right, and have chosen to use it in response to your comments about a school that does not seem to really exist.

Does the concept of "respectful" include all of your posts that were deleted due to TOS violations? Look in the mirror, dude.

As a piece of constructive criticism, I'd suggest you say what you mean the first time you say it rather than saying something and then, when someone calls you on it, saying something completely different but prefacing it with, "What I really meant to say was..." You see, doing it the way that you've done it above makes it seem that someone has somehow limited your ability to express yourself when in actuality, all they've done is disagree with you. This makes you look foolish and only serves to undermine your argument. I'll be only too glad to provide more tips as they come up.
