    Another ID online masters program

I wanted to add that I found another online masters in Instructional Design at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. I know nothing about the program other than what I read on the website: http://inst.cl.uh.edu/

Thank you Skyamese for putting together the matrix. I am currently a statistician and am considering a career change, and have been looking into ID. I will put your matrix to good use! I also learned alot of great info from the other posters!

That was a bit unnerving about what Ejars said about ID jobs being outsourced to India. Oh well... I have a feeling that this offshoring stuff is going to backfire on alot of employers who were pinching pennies.

    One more program...

I forgot about the Master's of Arts in Instructional Systems Design at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). This is a 100% online program and there are also 3 options for certificates. You can read more about the program at:

Thanks for the update! I just added U Houston-Clearwater, UMBC and some of the schools I found in the GetEducated.com PDF to my matrix.

    yet another program...

I found another online masters program at the University of Alabama. It's an M.S. in in Human and Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Interactive Technology. The weblink is

    http://iit.ches.ua.edu/

A quote of the program from their website:

    ------------------------------------------------------

Some are teachers who want to improve their skills with technology, but many more are students in different corporate positions who find the degree to be good preparation to qualify them for many career opportunities, including:

    - Organizational trainer
    - Distance education coordinator
    - Instructional designer
    - Web course developer
    - Technical coordinator

    ------------------------------------------------------

The program is 30 hours and the tuition is $215 per credit hour (I was quoted this tuition rate by the program director... wasn't evident on the website). One cool aspect of this program is that the pace of the program is self-directed... when you finish a course, you can immediately begin the next class without having to wait for the next semester to begin.

    Hi,

My apologies for digging up an old thread. I was curious if anyone had an up-to-date list of online graduate programs in Instructional Design/Technology.

    Thanks,

No need to apologize for necromancing an eight year old thread. One suggestion might be to sift through the MEd sticky.

The list from Skyamese from the original thread Graduate Schools with Ed Tech/IDT Degrees is still a very good list which includes most of the highly regarded programs in the field. Add Western Illinois University's M.S. in Instructional Design & Technology.

Haha! Thanks for the laugh, Ted. I will take a look at the sticky thread.

Yes, I started going through this list last night. Although a bit out of date, it is still a great resource. I'll take a look at the Western Illinois program as well.

I see that NYU program is no longer available. In your opinion - what is the most prestigious online program in Instructional Design/Technology currently available?

    Thanks,

    Hi all

This is such a useful thread. I've looked at all the programs suggested, and others that I found on the internet, and I ended up with these two as my top choices (the main criteria being cost - unfortunately I can't afford any of the others!):

Fort Hays State - Master of Science in Instructional Technology cost: $8688.6

Boise State - Master of Educational Technology cost $12,518

Obviously the difference between the two is quite significant and therefore I would prefer that one.

However, Boise State seems to have a very good reputation, many people say that it's excellent, but I couldn't find anything on the Fort Hays program. In terms of courses, they both sound interesting and suitable for my interests (adult / higher / corporate education)

So I was wondering if you guys have any comments on this? Any thoughts on Fort Hays or any ideas about why Boise State would be worth the extra money?

As someone with 25 years experience in the field of instructional design & technology, I do not have anything negative to say about Ft. Hays State's program, but it is not recognized nationally, while Boise State's definitely is. Next week, one of the major professional conferences for instructional design & technology (AECT) will be held in Louisville, KY (my home town) and there will be presenters from Boise State there, but I do not recall seeing anyone from Ft. Hays State on the program.

I'm currently in the Boise State IPT program and it's fantastic. Mind you, I'm only in my first semester there, but the teachers seem really good and there is a good amount of support from the school and alumni when it comes to discussing instructional performance. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking at instructional design as a career path.

Oh, I hadn't even see that one. It's a different department, the courses look interesting but it's even more expensive :(

Thanks for your input! Sorry if this sounds stupid but i'm not from the US: what exactly does "not recognized nationally" mean?

I'm currently in the Master's program. While they have both Master's and Doctorates for Educational Technology, my master's program is for instructional performance, which is why it is offered out of the College of Engineering I guess. So far I've had a great experience, and from what I've heard and read, it is a really good program that allows practical application of the stuff you learn as you go through the program.

Yeah, I forgot to factor in the cost for non-residents. Being military I am able to qualify for in-state tuition. The best part is I will be able to get both the degree and a graduate certificate in Human Performance Technology without taking any additional courses.
