World's Smallest Political Quiz

This looks like a shortened version of the political spectrum test written by the Libertarian Party. I think it asks too few questions to be of any scientific value.

 

I am a registered Libertarian as well. I would describe myself as a practical Libertarian as a strict Libertarian tends to be almost an Anarchist. As with any of the smaller parties, there are too many candidates with too small and too tight of an agenda to take them seriously. In the last general election, the Libertarian candidate for Lt Gov listed his occupation as Ferret Legalization Consultant. That is just silly - and makes the party look like a bunch of idiots.

In order to make the Libertarians win more elections, the candidates have to be more mainstream and not so much on the fringes.

 

I agree - my result was exactly the opposite of my political leanings.

 

That, and American History (real, not revised) has to be drummed into the heads of Americans starting at a young age. People need to know where they come from (all Americans, not just dead white land- and slave-holders) and who did what when to get from where we started to where we are now. Our current government looks abosolutely nothing like that envisioned by the original representatives from the colonies. There are many reasons for this, but most Americans have not a clue. That ignorance, combined with Libertarians own tendency to present themselves as incredibly strange and anarchistic people, makes for a situation where we are not really credible, and certainly not viable.

Republicans and Democrats are kind of like the McDonalds and Burger King of government. People know McD's and BK, know they are not good for them, know eating that food makes them fat and weak and unhealthy in so many ways, but keep going back to them because it's what they know, and it's easy.

NOTE: This is not a drumbeat to start a war with non-Libertarians on this forum. Really.

The Libertarians (I used to be one and actually was the first person in the state of Michigan to win office under the Libertarian banner.) have many problems besides the ones already mentioned.

There is intraparty fighting all the time. In the last Presidential election, Harry Browne was the Libertarian nominee and on the ballot in all states where they met the criteria. Yet, in Arizona, Barry Hess was the Libertarian nominee on the ballot.

The Libertarians need to have a united party and focus on the issues that most Americans care about--low or no taxation, limited government, civil liberties, free trade, personal freedoms, etc.

I hate being a centrist! I'd rather be a leftie or a rightie (I actually consider myself a rightie, and I'll bet most of you consider me on the far side of Limbaugh). Perhaps I just have so many extreme positions that they cancel each other out; perhaps I'm a maverick and take positions without regard to what my party (big plodding elephant, of course) tells me I should take. There, that's it, I'm a maverick, not beholden to anybody. I like that better.

Or maybe I'm just confused. I don't know.

Yes, I agree with you Jimmy. In CA, the Libertarian candidate for LT Gov was a self-described Ferret Legalization Advocate. WTF? Why would i vote for such a wierdo - I might as well vote for Gary Coleman!

This thing has 70% of the nation as centrists or libertarians... and only 7.54% as conservatives on the Right. I'm not sure that's how studies, polls and census data breaks it down. So I'm not sure how reliable this thing really is.

But it's entertaining, at least... for what that's worth.

Oops. I meant closer to 66%. I was in a hurry and I must have included the "Right (Conservative)" number in my quick, mental calculation or something. I dunno. All I know is that I overstated it by about 4%. My bad. Sorry.

 

That's because mostly libertarians take the test. I think it's reproduced in nearly every libertarian publication from Reason magazine to LP News.
