Way off-topic, I know, but this website is fascinating and disturbing at the same time. A woman rides her motorcycle into Chernobyl, the town in Russia that was devastated by the nuclear plant melt-down in the 1980's. http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter1.html
What a remarkable site, Bruce. Thank you for sharing the information. It is truly the motorcycle equivalent of eating fugu! I've passed the URL along to my literary agent, who actually looks remarkably like the woman whose site this is -- and who is equally fanatical about riding her big powerful motorcycle whenever and wherever she can. She'll love this. Who knows, she may even suspect, as I do, that these words and images should be compiled into a book. John
As I finished the site I was amazed. I want to go there, yet I am afraid and repulsed by what I saw. As an advocate of nuclear power is repulsed me, as a nurse who knows very well about radiation dosage it intrigued me. I agree with John Bear, and the librarian in me does as well, those images need to be cataloged and published. The gravity of this demands that it be preserved for our children so they can see our failures. If this is not distance education, I don't know what is.
Smal correction: Chernobyl (and Prypjat) is in Ukraine, not Russia. Not that far from Kiev, the capital and my home city. The material is fascinating. Thank you, Bruce.
Absolutely fascinating I was in Europe when that happened and they were in a panic over there over it. Neat site.
Wow. There's something about a woman who just glows... What a mesmerizing site. Thanks for posting this. Ursus major is right: should be a book. The Przewalski horses alone...
