Once I learned of distance learning I managed to test out my remaining 63 units in about 90 days. Of course, from the time of enrollment to conferral it's probably going to take about 7 months. I'd think you probably really could do one in 4 weeks from start to finish if you scheduled all the tests a month or two in advance.

No way I can compete with the big three, however I was able to pull it off in 25 months ( from 0-121 hrs.) with a combination of campus and online classes. Like I said in an earlier post, I could have waited another year or two for the graduate school I'm attending to kick my teeth in!

I took my first college course (English 100 and Univ. 101) at the Univ. of South Carolina in 1981.

I'm presently enrolled in a public university in South Carolina as a senior (I joke that I'm a 23'rd year senior).

I have variously transcripted 190 hours of undergrad and 9 hours of grad credit with very large chunks from CLEP (all generals and 30+ hours of subject), DANTES, ACT/PEP, and AARTS (60+) [most of which this university did not accept in transfer] -- not to mention three community colleges and a couple state universities.

When I finish the BA (flute performance) that I am working on now, I may use some of those excess hours at Exelsior for an AAS and another BA (theatre). Then I want an MA (arts admin) and an MFA (creative writing) from somewhere.

At the rate I'm going -- it will be 25 years from zero-to- BA. But then, my objective is the experience and not the document.

For me, the issue is this -- you have a hard time getting funding from an RA to do undergrad work if you already have a BA... :)

Through my ACE evaluated military credits, 3 classes from Central Texas College, CLEP tests, and 1 writing class from University of Phoenix named EML 299; I was able to earn an AA in 5 months.

I started my BBA at AIU Online in Nov 2002 and graduated 13 months later in Dec 2003. Currently, I am enrolled in the MBA program at AIU and am scheduled to graduate in Nov 2004. So, if everything goes as planned, I will have gone from an AA to an MBA in exactly 2 years.

THis will give me a BS in Psych with an Education Focus
I will have earned approx 132 Sem Hours (so I can legitimately not count the 19 I had) This will enable me to get my business degree in a month after graduating.

If I get a C on Statistics and one other class I will have a GPA
between 3.55-3.76 based on my calculations.

I actually started taking the tests on 1-7-04 and complete on
1-31-04 (I had to fly to the states to take care of a business
matter so I did not test between Feb-9-Mar-10 so I will have completed in 91Days if you subtract the time I was in the states
it would be approximately with study dates 60 Days so I believe it is possible to do it in 30 especially if you do the GRE and go for a LA Focus.

I fell good about this and am taking courses online and inperson now that will allow me to student teach by next fall. If I do not go crazy, or lose momentem, I will try and get a Masters before
Dec 30th, which I am researching now.

Yes I feel I am bragging(correct this time however If It hadnt been for Drs Bear and Especially Lawries Site I would not have done this, I hope to get a PHD and teach at the college level some time but I will spend a month in Thailand first !!

    Thanks,yes its possible

    Slowest Degree

    Rich,

I got you beat for the slowest degree. My Associates Degree took me from1986 to 1998. I'm still attending ISU for my Bachelors Degree. I have attend school for 18 years now. However, I did not consecutively attend. I had a 7 year leave in my associates degree.

I completed my BS (with 12 credits going into it) in 4 weeks not counting my math test. That took me another 6 months because I only got a 49 due to my going too fast!

I know this does not count but...

I went from zero to 99 credits in the last 10 months at TESC.

Those last 21 credits are going to slow me down since there is no way I can bullS%$ my way through a CLEP Algebgra/Trig.

In fact, and to extend the scope of this topic slightly, I've been seriously considering, writing "The Weekend Degree: a practical guide for enlisted personnel". Now, it probably would have to be completed during the week, Monday to Friday, but it's perfectly feasible for those already in possession of all required competencies. It is actually easier to complete than the BA in 4 Weeks.

John Bear has, of course, told the story of the National Guard sergeant who completed degree requirements in 18 hour, straight. That was at a time when 30+ credit hours could be earned for a pass in the GRE subject test, above the 35th percentile. That is no longer possible, unfortunately. The requirement is now a pass above the 80th percentile, and there are now a few more ancillary requirements and a more rigorous WER. The devil is in the detail and this work would seek to provide book and verse.

The title, “The Weekend Degree”, like “BA in 4 Weeks”, would offer a convenient platform for exposition of methods and techniques. Some could complete requirements in 48 hours, many more within a week, and more still, within the month. The unique benefits afforded military personnel make these timelines possible. If any involved in education administration in the armed forces should read the board and this post, I like to here from them to verify the detail of relevant rules and procedures. I can be reached at http://bain4weeks.com/lawries-q-and-a/addentry.php - check the "Private message" button.

    Thanks

I am interested in Excelsior Bachelor Degree.

I am a Social Sciences Graduate in The Hong Kong of Hong Kong and I would like to know can I send the transcript to EC for evaluation. (I saw that they accept The University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong for direct evaluation). Any Hong Kong graduate experienced that?

What will be shown for credits transferred from other RA Institutions? How the GPA counted?

For credits transferred from RA Institutions, any fee needed?

I couldn't find the fee in the Excelsior website, where is it?

    Thanks a lot!

AAS and BS in 6 months?

It depends on how you look at it. If you include the transfer credit from Georgia State University, and my military credits, it took about a year (adding up all the actual dates of study). If you look at it from the dates of enrollment to Excelsior College, AAS in Electromechanical Studies: March 1st, 2004. Graduated July 16, 2004. BS from July 17 to Sept 17, 2004.

Technically, I completed all BS degree requirements as of July 2, 2004. The AAS degree requirements were completed back in April, 2004. But I was enrolled in the military option for the AAS, which required 6-credit residency. I just did a regular enrollment for the BS, but missed the Aug, 2004 graudation deadline because of some delay in official transcript receipt issues.

Final GPAs: AAS 4.0, BS 3.68

With the exception of the GSU transfer credit, all of this was done WHILE on active duty.

I've successfully passed over 35 credit by examinations:

    1) Personal Finance (Dantes) 56
    2) Intro to Business (Dantes) 64
    3) Intro to Computing (Dantes) 57
    4) Ethics in America (Dantes) 51

    25) Human Growth and Development (Clep) 60
    26) Social Sciences and History (6 credits) (clep) 58
    27) Principles of Statistics (DSST) 61
    28) Money and Banking (DSST upper) 48
    29) Intro to Operations Mgmt (TECEP - Failed April 20, 2004)
    30) Humanities (6 credit Clep - Failed May 17, 2004)
    31) Analyzing/Interpreting Literature (6 credits) (clep) 57
    32) Ethics, Theory and Practice ECE ("B")
    33) Criminal Justice (DSST) 62
    34) English Comp w/Essay (6 credits Failed - May 20something, 2004)

    37) Intro to Operations Mgmt (TECEP retake) 77 (60 to pass)
    38) Educational Psychology (CLEP) 67
    39) Introductory Psychology (CLEP) 68
    40) Human Resources Mgmt ECE "A"

I failed Environment/Humanities by one point and that's when I took the exams seriously (actually studied). I planned on retaking it, but never did it because I already had all the credits I needed.

Failed Business Law II by about 12 points. I really had no clue about the answers and should have studied for this tough test.

Failed the TECEP Intro to Operations Mgmt the first time by 5 points. Did NOT study the first time. I did buy the recommended textbook and actually went though every page and compared it to the test content outline. Retook it and aced it. But what an expensive lesson ($360 for EACH test).

Do NOT ask why I failed English Comp w/Essay. It was probably because the essay wasn't long enough (only a quick 3 paragraph essay) I had plenty of time to type more, but ended the test early. Didn't matter anyway because I already satisfied the Written English Requirement. Just wanted to see if I could get some filler credits.

Failed Humanities by 3 points. Not bad for almost complete guessing. And I did make it all the way though to the end. Lots of names and art/film topics you have to be able to identify. Did NOT study; just needed filler credits in the humanities category.

Everthing I failed was NOT required. So no significant setbacks.

All the proof can be found at http://www.123collegedegree.com/proof.html . The SMART will display additional tests that I took but were not used.

Special thanks to Mr. Miller of bain4weeks.com and InstantCert Academy (http://www.120collegecredits.com ) for their information. Dana at the Navy College Office @ NAS JAX deserves credit for proctoring exams outside the normal test dates to help me graduate "on schedule" and work around my working hours.
