Iran, Saudi Arabia agree to resume ties. Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to re-establish relations after years of hostility that had threatened stability and security in the Gulf and helped fuel conflicts in the Middle East from Yemen to Syria. The Iran-Saudi agreement brokered by China? The U.S. reported, was not involved in a talks process brokered by China. What are the implications in the Middle East and beyond? This will legitimize even further the violations of human rights in all the involved countries. The totalitarian regimes coming together is not a good news for the world. Not good news for the west and it promotion of democracy and freedom.
Yes, it is an interesting quandary. They will likely never be real good friends though. The Sunnis and Shiites have been rivals for thousands of years. So I don't think this is really going to be a game changer.
Feels like our policies failed and China took advantage of it. The tyrants working hard to reduce US and West influence in the world.
While this is true. It's also true, I think, that China was better positioned to play this role because China has a far better relationship with Iran than does the USA.
Given that Saudi Arabia and Iran are enemies, diplomatic relations or no, I would have to say "not necessarily". (Not to mention the all time example of the Nazis vs. the Soviets!)
Yeah - but a third bad outfit (China) helped them out. And if I lump all these horror-show, pariah nations into one basket - I find they're easier to watch - as they have to be. At all times.
