This will legitimize even further the violations of human rights in all the involved countries.
The totalitarian regimes coming together is not a good news for the world.

Not good news for the west and it promotion of democracy and freedom.

 

Yes, it is an interesting quandary. They will likely never be real good friends though. The Sunnis and Shiites have been rivals for thousands of years. So I don't think this is really going to be a game changer.

 

Feels like our policies failed and China took advantage of it.

While this is true. It's also true, I think, that China was better positioned to play this role because China has a far better relationship with Iran than does the USA.
