Source: https://truewestmagazine.com/the-peacemaker/ In the old west, the revolver was called a "peacemaker." LOL
.....and? If verbal stays verbal, all is well. Getting physical/violent changes things. "Good shoot", legally. Stupid, a waste, but legal. Someone calling your wife ugly is just words...once you assault him by touching him, all bets are off. Lesson: mind your own business, and don't touch strangers.
There was a lot of stupidity to go around in that situation, but even "stand your ground" doesn't mean you're legally in the clear to shoot someone who is retreating from you.
This is uncharted legal territory, which is why deputies made no arrest and, instead, the case was forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for evaluation. The State Attorney may or may not issue an arrest warrant, depending on the outcome of their investigation. In the old west when everybody was armed, everybody was polite.
I don't see how this can be interpreted as a stand your ground case. The unarmed man made no attempt to further the physical confrontafion after the armed man pulled his gun out. I understand that the law doesn't require a defender to flee, but does it really permit you to shoot someone who is unarmed and not advancing toward you?
Update: The State Attorney agrees that Stand Your Ground does not apply and has charged the shooter with manslaughter. https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/13/us/stand-your-ground-florida-shooting-charges/index.html The Sheriff is a complete moron, IMO, and I'm relieved that there will at least be a trial. The fact that the charge will be manslaughter instead of murder means, at least in my humble estimation, that he will be more likely to be convicted. Too often, the prosecutors ramp up the charges and can't make them stick, but in my opinion, the video very clearly justifies a manslaughter charge and potential subsequent conviction.

It's apparently the case that the "Wild West" wasn't all that wild. I doubt it had as much to do with everyone packing heat as some people think, though, even if it sounds badass in a Heinlein novel.
Kismet, it's a rendition of a quote from Robert A. Heinlein (1907-1988) when he said: "An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." Kizmet, if the unarmed black male knew that the white male was legally armed with a gun, then would the black male have battered the white male? Pray tell?
