The World Cup

Our Icelandic friends gave it a go but eventually were pushed out. Today's matches are England v. Sweeden and Russia v. Croatia. However, if you were going to watch only one game (aside from the finals) you could do worse than the game happening next Tuesday, France v. Belgium. You could have a Stella Artois and pretend the you understand the offsides rule.

 

The Croatians may have a Stanislavian contempt for the Russians so that match could be good.

 

Going into the final, I guess that I have to say that I'll be cheering for Croatia. They are going up against big bad France, and there's that American cheer-for-the-underdog thing. They aren't Iceland, but they are a small country team that's never gotten this far before and, after knocking off Russia and England, are in uncharted territory.

 

A nice game for France, clearly the better team on the field.

 

Just think of what might have happened to Paris if the French had lost.
