Anyone think this is a good option? I'm trying to get a technical degree in electronics and this looks pretty legit. I have a BA in Econ from a "traditional" school, but looking to get into more technical stuff. thanks
It is a legitimate school, accredited and not too expensive. If you plug the name into our search engine you'll see that it's been mentioned many, many times on this board.
Excelsior is excellent if you can get the degree you are looking for... it is the oldest distance learning college in the country. It used to be part of the University of new York.
Excelsior is great if you plan on having more than 90 transfer credits that actually apply to your new degree program. Otherwise, Excelsior is kind of on the expensive end at $465 per credit hour. In comparison, Thomas Edison State College charges a flat rate of $8,647 per year for up 36 credits. That amounts to $240.19 per credit hour. If you're a New Jersey resident, then the annual tuition is about $3,000 less. The downside is that their Electronic Systems Engineering program is not ABET-accredited. However, if you were looking to earn an electronics technology and not an electrical engineering technology degree at Excelsior, then ABET accreditation probably doesn't matter to you anyway.
Most power utility orgainzations aren't looking for ABET accreditation for a tech. If I were looking for a straight BSEE, then ABET almost a requirement. I think I'll give them a call on Monday. Thanks for all the reply's.
I forgot that TESC also has a program in electrical technology. BSAST Degree in Electrical Technology | Thomas Edison State College
