He's not the only ultrasmart person who fears that once artificial intelligence is powerful enough, in the best case scenario we'll be pets and in the worst case scenario we'll be raw materials.

Hmmmm. I would say not pets, maybe slaves.

It seems unlikely we'd be useful enough to an advanced AI to be slaves.

You may be right but I think it makes for a better sci-fi mini-series. SCREENPLAY!!!

If not Bond, then Hawking could play Dr. Doofenshmirtz, the most evil scientist in the tri-state area. Steve could be Perry/Agent P. I think that airtorn would make a good Ferb. We'd have some trouble casting Phineas. There's lots of smart guys around here. Jennifer could be Candace or maybe Isabella but I definitely want to play Vanessa.

"Hey Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!"

Hmmmmm. Maybe you could do the voice-over for Hawking.

    "Close the pod-bay door HAL."
    "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that."

On Pink Floyd's recently released CD (The Endless River) there is a song titled Talkin' Hawkin. It is the actual voice of Hawking from an early 90's TV ad in Britain. In the song he talks about the potential of humankind to achieve greater and greater innovations. He ends with the caveat, All we need to do is make sure we keep talking?

I liked The Endless River a lot more than I thought I would. It's basically just the best of leftover recordings from when they were recording The Division Bell in 1994, and it's mostly instrumentals, like a long ambient jam session with David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and the late Richard Wright. They don't really cover any new musical ground with it (even the use of Hawking's voice was done on the song "Keep Talking" on The Division Bell), but it didn't feel like filler to me, and I think it's a good final release for them.

A fellow Floyd fan I see. Very good!

Yes, it was a good final release for them.

The Endless River was originally scheduled for release in October, but the date was extended to November 10. The call came from Barnes/Noble at 10:30 AM on November 10 stating that my pre-ordered copy was in the store. By lunch I had listened to the entire CD. I read in a magazine review that The Endless River broke Amazon's UK record for a pre-ordered music CD.

I worry more about the intelligence (or lack thereof) of the public and politicians more tan I worry about AI.
