PatsGirl, this degree has 12 courses plus a thesis. Do you know how many credit hours this is? I don't see on the site where this info is listed -- nothing about how many credit hours each course and the thesis gives.

Ted, well this is the program that said:

Note—By action of the Board of Trustees, no one who has been divorced or who is married to a divorced person may be admitted as a student. Prospective students who are separated from spouses will not be accepted.

In other words, because I decided that I no longer like being married to a woman who beats me up and calls the cops making false accusations of domestic violence against me, these self-righteous individuals think I am no longer good enough for them.

Beh?! Circumstances not considered? (Matthew 19:9; Romans 7:2; 1 Corinthians 4:6).

I know, none of my business really, but do you want to go to a Bible school that doesn't know what the Bible says?

I understand the scriptures wholly, but I feel as though if you are not going there for ministry, only as an educational experience, you should be allowed to attend.

Any other schools out there that offer a PhD in Biblical Studies online?

    Which is a good thing.

I disagree with the policy, but I understand why they are sticking to it.

Most likely, the PhD is designed at this school for an academic version of ministerial preparation. If you only go for an educational experience, you are not in tune with the seminary's mission, and they would be in the right to deny admission to you.

It's like with many other PhD programs....if you don't fit the department's goals, interests, or mission, then you are rejected.

Are the thesis courses also 3 semester hour credits each?

This is one issue, among as few others, that kept me from pursuing pastoral ministry in the Southern Baptist Convention -- although each local church is autonomous and can do as they please.

I've narrowed my choices to these:

    Holy Apostles College MA Theology

    Southwestern College MA Theological Studies

    Baker University MLA Religion

    WNMU MAIS English/Writing

Eliminated Liberty, Maranatha, Global, Illinois-Springfield, National U.

I am narrowing it down even more:

WNMU MAIS English/Writing and Southwestern College MA Theological Studies

I liked Holy Apostles' program, but very definite RC slant and much more expensive...

This makes me nervous as well... I looked at MDiv programs but many wouldn't take me (divorced way back when I was 19) for this same reason...

    Yep:
    From the site:
"...The college division was opened in 1972 to offer a Roman Catholic college education to lay students and consecrated religious. In 1978 Holy Apostles was authorized to operate as a major seminary (also known as a theologate), offering the Master of Divinity and preparing men for the priesthood."
