Hello everyone, I've finally finished with my BA in Psychology. Now, I am looking for a graduate degree that will help guide me into an online adjunct position. There are many here with experience in this field, so I'd like to ask the opinion on this: More specifically, the Distance Learning Specialization. Of course, somehow I'd have to pair that with my BA but I am welcome to any thoughts. Thank you in advance for your thoughts! Charlene
In your other thread you mentioned Ashford for an MEd, I don't personally have experience in this area, but this is another option I'm aware of that is fairly cheap and that might work for you, don't know if anyone here has experience/opinions about this program: Master of Science in Education, Option in Online Teaching and Learning California State University, East Bay http://www.extension.csueastbay.edu/degree/education/index.shtml Total tuition cost: $10,980
This is a reaonably priced degree - gives you 18 units (usually sufficient to teach in a California CC). http://www.wnmu.edu/VirtualCampus/news/psych_MAIS_newsletter.pdf
Ian, I have a question. When you say 18 units, it that in teaching or MA level Psychology? Thank you, Charlene
The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western New Mexico University www.wnmu.edu/VirtualCampus/InterdisciplinaryMasters.htm is a 36-hour degree which requires 18 hours in each of two different concentrations. Both Psychology and Education are among the available concentrations.
I mislead you on my post - I just looked at the California CC faculty requirements again and the 18 graduate unit requirement has gone. For psychology faculty here are the minimum requirements: Psychology: Master’s in psychology OR Bachelor’s in psychology AND Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work OR the equivalent Source: http://www.cccco.edu/ChancellorsOffice/Divisions/AcademicAffairs/MinimumQualifications/MQsforFacultyandAdministrators/tabid/753/Default.aspx The 18 unit requirement may exist in other states. As Ted said the WNMU MALS could contain Psyc and ed courses- perhpaps this meets the "Equivalent" option.
Thank you all. You've been very helpful, and given me more options to choose from. Thank you! Charlene
