I need 6 additional credits to apply for another teaching certificate and I'd like to take the courses online. I already have a Master of Education and don't want to apply for another program, so ideally I could just take 2 courses somewhere. Is this possible? Can someone help me out with my internet search?

I need the credits in early childhood education/early childhood special education. Thanks!

  2. Hello, I know of one college that let's you take classes without enrolling: Charter Oak State College. They have a large assortment of courses, but I haven't done a search for you, so I'm not sure if they have what you need.

University of Nebraska-Kearney offers online graduate communication disorder courses (a special education qualifier). For a Nebraska resident, undergraduate tuition is $167.25 per credit hour, graduate tuition is $198.25 per credit hour. For an out-of-state online student, undergraduate tuition is $258.50 per credit hour; graduate tuition is $323.75 per credit hour. http://aaunk.unk.edu/gradcatalogs/current/crs/crscdis.asp

AMU/APU was going to be my answer. Very easy to enroll to take a few courses...all they need is your transcript(s) and a five minute application. I'm not sure but I don't remember an application fee.

Courses are well-run and easy to negotiate as a student.

I like the courses at AMU. Tough but I am learning a great deal. I don't feel like I'm taking the easy way out at all.

I just applied and got admitted to AMU a couple of days ago. I can confirn that there is no admission fee, and you can immediately register for classes. I believe you have 15 weeks from registering for your first class to deliver the transcripts to them, until then you're conditionally admitted. Nice things I have seen so far (I have yet to register for any classes):

    1) They have a streamlined process of ordering graduate textbooks for your course from their bookstore. You just pick course(s) you're going to attend and they will offer you to buy the required textbooks, optional textbooks, online memberships (Britannica for example) and some other goodies. They even sell used textbooks so you can get some nice deals there (I've tried comparing the prices with those at www.abebooks.com and there wasn't much of a difference)

    2) You immediately (upon being admitted) get access to their online library, including JSTOR, so you can start reading and researching right away.

If undergraduate credits will work for you, then look into a local community college.

Fort Hays allows enrollment in grad classes for non-degree seeking students and has several Virtual College classes in Special Ed. Tuition is reasonable at $225 per grad semester hour whether you are a Kansas resident or not.

On Tiger Tracks you can have a look at upcoming course titles and descriptions as a "Guest" using the Course Schedule:

    Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! APU was a good idea but their MEd program in Special Ed is pretty much exactly what I've already done and they don't have anything specific to early childhood. Fort Hays has a course that looks to be a fit though...

I guess I'm limited in that I need credits in a very specific area. I already have a students with disabilities certification for school age kids, I just want to add the cert for students with disabilities in early childhood. Opens up a few more job possibilities, especially in early intervention.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

My wife has taken a few education grad classes through Adams State. They are listed as professional development courses and all have the same number but they do give a letter grade on the transcript.
