When School "Rankings" Become Vanity Awards

I'm seeing a lot of schools including Gonzaga University Graduate School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology - Saunders College of Business, Jack Welch Management Institute, and even Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and many others touting their "ranking" from CEO Magazine.

These rankings appear to be little more than vanity awards from a so-called business magazine. From the website, The Smart Read for the Business-Smart - CEO Magazine, there is no prominent mention of who actually operates the site and the mailing address (found here Contact - CEO Magazine) is simply a virtual office address: Virtual Office Address in London UK, Mail Forwarding, Meeting Rooms..

CEO Magazine says "Our objective is simple: to identify schools which marry exceptional quality with great ROI." Just one problem: They don't specify how they do this and searching "methodology" in the search box yielded nothing.

I am all for schools advertising legitimate recognition, but I am absolutely tired of seeing these vanity type awards being touted as legitimate recognition because they only serve to do one thing: deceive.
