Actually the length of time you are on this board has no bearing at all. A mod told me that my post count was too low and that I was certainly not part of the group here before I was banned for snarky comments. Post count matters more here then the length of time on the group.

Recap: Snark with a smiley face :) jumping banana means that you always have an out and can throw up your hands in a passive-aggressive backwards shuffle "What Me?" attitude. An opinion with snark and no smiley while defending yourself = ostracized.

You're on the precipe; Mod mood depending.

I forgot about the post count badge of distinction. I guess I need to throw up a couple of thousand "I agree" posts to be one of the gang. Or maybe start a series of polls on the same topic. More smiley posts?

    I don't do passive-aggressive - I am pretty much a "lay-it-on-the table" guy.

You know, I was actually responding to someone who made a blatantly inaccurate point about why the corporate form exists and how it is used, but thanks for getting snippy. You have certainly put me in my place, and I'll refrain from stepping out of line in the future.

It is so nice to see when we all play nice*

*This post was written with the sole purpose of raising my post count to be on the "inside". I do not pretend to add value.

Oh, you guys never knew? The second you hit 3,000 posts you are given a key to the executive squash room and are allowed to post spam under aliases with a filipino IP address. After 5,000 posts you get to look directly at the DegreeInfo database which stores the real name, social security number and mothers maiden name and current address of all of this site's members.

Lastly, and most prestigiously, if you average over 12.5 posts per day over the course of 365 days, you are allowed to drink from the fountain of youth and will be an eternal member of this board. On top of that, you will automatically be given a Ph.D from Northcentral University and live in a mansion with 75 virgins (the catch is that they have to remain virgins- this is a G-rated post, you know).

In the words of Bill Nye the Science Guy "...NOW YOU KNOW!!!"

    However, you must never forget...

If you read my comments, I did not specifically state that corporations exist to reduce taxation. I agree with you that they exist to protect assets. But isn't this really semantics? If they can also be used for tax advantages, do you not think that those in position to use them that way will? Isn't reducing a tax burden another approach to protecting assets? I suppose the fact that GE paid NO corporate taxes in 2010 was just an unintended side effect of their overall desire to protect their assets?

I apologize to all if my tone has offended anyone in this thread. I regularly engage in debate on these issues and sometimes my views color my ability to play nice with others. No hard feelings and have a nice day.

To hopefully put some perspective on this issue. While the deficit increases, this country's spending is increasing faster than it ever has in the whole of history. There is something fundamentally wrong with that equation. Of course, it is only reasonable that tax loopholes finally be closed, but that would only help moderately and only in the short-term if the spending continues to increase as it has. Many people are shouting that there is a need for "increased revenues" which is basically a happy euphemism for "tax increases." The scariest part about tax increases is that the government is already spending beyond it's means. Will it magically stop if it has more money? Ummm... I'll let you take out your crystal balls on that one. The more money the government takes, the more opportunity they have to squander it and overspend.

There are plenty of ways to fix the spending problem, but way too many lobbies to shut up to make it happen. It is easy to focus on programs that help the poor because, well, the poor can't afford to buy politicians to help their cause and are most often too worried about daily survival to cast a vote. I'm fed up with the rhetoric that denigrates people who are genuinely in a bad way as parasites to society.

I absolutely will not shed a tear for the insanely rich people who buy politicians to complain that their historically low taxes and loopholes are still to high while poor people aren't suffering enough.

    Rush Limbaugh relents:

"Where to find food.... It's a thing called the refrigerator. You probably already know about it. Try looking there. There's another place if none of these options work to find food; there's always the neighborhood dumpster."

Yes, starving people of America, if you are hungry, the common sense solution is to open up your refrigerator. Or dumpster. But don't forget to give your fair share of dumpster goodies to the government, or it would be unfair to the CEO of Kraft. Why should he give up more of his lobster money than you must of your already been chewed breakfast? It's a shame, really.
