Hi, I am trying to decide whether to apply to UNISA or UZUL (University of Zululand) for my D.Com in economics. The only problem is that I don't know much about UZUL and they are impossible to reach via E-mail. I would be very thankful if anyone could shed some light on issues such as: - tuition and fees at UZUL - source of info as to the application process - the possibility of completing the degree using a DL-like mode of education. Thank you in advance.
They (UZUL) are even less expensive, about 2/3 of the cost. Now all I have done is go to their website, so I don't really know anything, but 1 - I have never heard of them, and 2 - I can not tell that they have a Royal Charter like UNISA..
Bill Grover and Uncle Janko earned their ThD at this school (UNIZUL). Haggai is finishing his doctorate there. There's another poster here doing a doctorate there. Can't remember his name. I tried to work on a PhD in Communication Science and had many problems as the professors kept leaving. After a while, no one would answer emails or speak with me by phone. I gave up and went to Pretoria. There was much discussion about this school in the past. Roscoe
Yes. I saw the old threads. By the way, how did things work out with Pretoria? I did not think that was a DL school? Otherwise, it is an excellent one.
Things are going well. I defend in June and plan to graduate in September. The program I'm working on is basically a "research degree" program with no class work. I don't think it's promoted as DL. Yet, technically, it is done at a distance with all communications being done by email. I will use some other technology for the oral defence. Roscoe
I have a theory about African degrees. I don't base it on any firsthand knowledge, but this is just a thought that has crossed by mind. My theory is that some African schools DON'T want American students. There could be a few different reasons for this: political differences, they don't want Americans taking advantage of the lower tuition, they would rather their student body be Afrocentric...or something I haven't thought of. I have tried to email a few foreign schools. The colleges in the UK are extremely responsive...even more so than some American schools. The Australian schools are a close second. Some of their responses tend to be automated or pre-written emails, but they do respond. Of the African schools I have tried to email, none have responded. I always made it clear in my email that I am in the U.S. Perhaps that has something to do with it. One of the schools I tried to contact was the University of Hargeisa, which does have a BA in Journalism available by DL. I tried to contact them no less than three times. I never received a response.
