    OK...

Not to mention tenure track most often requires it.

I can do the same and look at any research university and most likely that will be a requirement, but you indicated " but they say they have to publish to get in over their rivals" I am still waiting for the who says. Is that stamped in stone? Academia teaching positions vs research positions in academia are two different things!

Actually, most people that I know that graduated from Capella and NCU work as full time online adjuncts. I could give you the name of at least 10 of them but that would violate their privacy. I have met few that work full time as administrators but yet haven't found one that works as tenure professor at a research university. From the people I know, most of them finished their doctorates mainly to secure more adjunct work but they are not trying to get tenure tracks but they publish on a regular basis mainly because they supervise dissertations at online schools.

I have met at least one person in Canada that was able to secure a tenure track at a research school with a Nova degree and three more with degrees from Australian Schools that were earned externally. And by the way, these four people have DBAs or EdDs and not PhDs.

I'm sure that there are people with PhDs from NCU working at research Universities but I haven't found them yet.

The OP is a full-time university professor who also has a top-30 MBA (Vanderbilt). If you want to teach full-time anywhere but a community college, you're probably going to need a doctorate.

There are limitations to everything you do in life, but no impossibilities.

ssteachn: Some of these generalizations are silly. I had an online teaching gig lined up the DAY I finished my DBA, and have already submitted one article and am working on another, plus I will probably turn my dissertation into an article.

    DBA/PhD, bla bla bla

Why do you even care about this?
