I find it hard to believe that so many people who have not attended either UOP or Champlain are certain that Champlain is better. I graduated got a BS in accounting from UOP, which landed me a job with a big 4 accounting firm. I went on to get a MBA from Indiana Wesleyan online, and am now contemplating a PhD. I have since moved on from the big 4 and have seen absolutely no bias from having UOP on my resume. Note to the original poster, please consider your sources when posting something like this. I am not qualified to comment on Champlain and have not done so.

    Accountant guy---

When it comes down to education, I think anyone with a will will be able to be educated through a college like UoP, Strayer, Harvard, Community College USA, or even by buying textbooks on their own.

I have not had good experiences with the 2 people I have known who have attended UoP. I have found in their cases, the rigor was nonexistent. One was an undergrad and the other is a grad student. The grad student was thrilled with a grade she just received on a term paper (a high B) and she showed it to me. I was shocked because it sounded like a typical high school level paper with horrific grammar (she has written and oral communication issues-- unfortunately this has hurt her in her career mobility).

These are just 2 people-- in completely different programs and levels. It left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I had at one time considered UoP when I first started looking at online education 6 years ago--- after reading some reviews, I passed on the option for several reasons.

Do I think I would have received a lackluster education? For me, no. Like I said if someone truly wants to learn something they will with whatever materials they use. However, I think I could have received a better experience and education elsewhere.

I think any school can put out disfunctional graduates. I worked with engineers from two of the top private schools in California and each engineer was a complete dud. Not only were their engineering skills bad but their writing was equally bad. Fortunately these "top" graduates were in a rotation program so I only had them on my team for 3 months each.

*lol* I don't disagree Ian about any school is capable of putting out a dud.

I was actually having this conversation with a friend about some Veterinary school students we know. Our vet school in my state only accepts 62 residents a year and it BLEW MY MIND that a couple of the vet school students she and I know were actually accepted into the program. I was convinced they must look incredible on paper and must interview well.

I do think certain schools just have a higher probability to graduate complete duds. I.e. I think say Harvard would produce percentage wise far less duds than the percentage of UoP.

When I first became a police officer (1988), there were still many cops on the job who were hired in the 1950's and even a few from the 1940's, when there were almost no standards for the job, other than a discernible pulse and no criminal record. Some of the smartest people I've ever met in my life were those men, who never came close to even graduating high school.

On the other hand, I've seen some graduates of Harvard Law School that I wouldn't trust with sharp scissors. Someone's alma mater is not a reliable indicator of their intelligence or abilities.

Anyone who has so far occupied the White House, regardless of political party, has been intelligent, for sure.

Yet, common sense is another thing, entirely.

Jimmy Carter was perhaps (open to opinion) one of the worst Presidents in U.S. History, but the United States Navy does not often give an officer's commission to a stupid person.

Likewise, the United States Air Force does not hand-over control of a multi-million dollar fighter plane, like the F-102 (which George W. Bush flew in the TX ANG), to a stupid person.

    Is the "Messiah"....President-elect Obama, intelligent?

    Of course.

    Does he have common sense?

That remains to be seen, along with most other aspects of his life, including where he was really born.

I agree. But have you checked out the big three (Excelsior, COSC,and TESC)?
That would give you lots of options - you could maybe still take classes at Champlain then transer credit to one of the big three.

Bruce, I have read many of your post and consider you a real sharp cookie, but “…including where he was born.” Come on, man, don’t fall for that okedoke!

Neither of these schools have a great reputation. There are other state schools and private schools(with wayyyy better reputations) that offer degrees at a distance. Check them out.
