  1. I think Peter hit the nail on the head. To do this right, you essentially need to recreate Bears' Guide. On the other hand, I think more focused and structured lists such as those on Gus Sainz's and Jonathan Liu's websites are very useful.

    Listing of Un-accreditted universities

    Hi.

Are you sure that Global University is unaccredited. They are listed as having the DETC accreditation. go to detc.org.

  3. You are correct. See bozzy's post above.

Thanks for the list Linyard. You just saved me the trouble of taking a few courses with one of these schools. I would not have been happy to find out that they were not regionally accredited.

Well, actually, if y'all hang on for another month or so, such a list (of RA schools) -- and lots more to go with it -- will exist here on degreeinfo. It's one of the neat little surprises that we're working on that we're not really ready to announce yet.

    yes or no

Back in the old AED days, I created a pretty complete web link list (at that time) to include all unaccredited schools (no any USDOE recognized accreditation). Many members of the discussion group commented that the list, which includes a lot of hard to find unaccredited schools, will become an advertisement for the D*** M***. Then finally I decided to shut it down. This kind of list is good or bad, depending how you use it.

Like most other people on this board, I feel your list is less than helpful. Some people actually look to this board for accurate information. This list, in my opinion, is simply irresponsible.

Actually, it was Columbia Southern University which
received DETC accreditation, not the flagrant diploma mill,
Columbia State, which requires virtually no work at all.
I wasn't going to bother pointing out this error, but Columbia State and legitimate accreditation is quite a scary
    concept. :)

Wellll... yup, sorta. There's going to be a school list, but it's really more than that, and we're pretty excited what it's going to be. We're hoping for beta testing within 4-6 weeks, and live very soon after that.

And there are two or three other projects in the works as well that we hope will further knowledge of DL and, at the same time, make degreeinfo an even more valuable community resource.

Not true, outside the USA a school is generally considered illegal if it starts out "unaccredited".

I believe a list can serve some good however it should be done very carefully. There are many schools that provide a good education that may be in the process of seeking some accreditation. I believe all accreditated schools were un accreditated at one time. If a good school is seeking excellence it seem that they would be working at least toward some type of legitate accreditation. The danger of a list like this as has been stated is that it lumps clear mills with schools that are really trying to provide a good eduction.

    Just a thought

    Robert
