For those of you who are considering Ubuntu - it's quite nice. The GUI is awesome I must admit, and I am a CLI lover :)

It took me all but 10 mins to get my wireless recognized and to get online...

I can highly recommend it - if you have any Q's go ahead and post'em!

I tried the boot-from-CD version 5.10 on my laptop, and while it ran fine, it couldn't see my wireless and I had no idea how to make it look harder or get it to work manually. Maybe I should try again now that version 6.06 is out?

As an educational technologist I've been interested in test driving Edubuntu and SkoleLinux. A problem for me is that there is still still no mature Flash authoring tool for Linux. I don't use that very often, but not never either, so until that changes, I'm reluctant to switch on my home machine. (Yes, I could mess around with Crossover Office and use the Windows version of Flash MX, but where's the ROI?)

I was surprised at how easy 6.06 was, the install went flawless and upgrading is a snitch... the wireless took all but 10 mins (using a linksys wpg54gs card to a linksys WAP).

It took me a couple of hours to get aiglx+compiz working (eye candy for the desktop, rotating screens when switching desktops, wicked animations for alt-tab and min/max of windows...) and I just ordered another 512MB stick for my notebook to bring me to 1G - eye candy is wicked ( MAC has it, Vista will have a variation of it as well). All in all, I'm quite happy with Ubuntu.

Only snag I ran into so far is with flash plugins and firefox, I had to delete the flash as ff crashed on flash sites...
