U. of Pretoria--I'm close to committing there

  1. Actually should be Hoër not Hoer. Hoer means "whore" in Afrikaans. LOL.

    Over 130 years old, Dutch Reformed, with graduates serving globally. FW de Klerk, former SA President, is a graduate of and current chancellor of PUCHE. The school is named after city in which it is located--Potchefstroom.

    Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. I sent the question about reorganizing the school toward a more vocational model to Bobby Loubser at Zululand and here is his reply:

    Dear Tom
    I appreciate your question. At present the suggestions of the working group
    that originally made the recommendations are under discussion. We do not
    know what they meant with their vague statement or how it will affect our
    government subsidy. Senate is prepared to introduce technikon-type
    programmes in addition to the present programmes, but much seeding money is
    needed. My guess is that changes will be marginal and gradual. The deputy
    president of the country is our chancellor and he has indicated to people
    close to me that he understands the need for retaining university capacity
    in this part of the province. There is presently a lot of politicking going
    on and it would be unwise to overreact to vague suggestions. Your degree
    will not be affected by any moves. We have some solid reasons to retain our
    Theology Faculty.

    Thank you for your clarification on PUCHE. May I ask is PU VIR CHO also another abbreviation for the same univesity.

    Yes, same university!

    PUCHE=English
    PU vir CHO=Afrikaans
