Okay TUI University just threw something in that made it a little higher on my list. I need some opinions though. I found out TUI has reduced tuition for government employees. I work for my local transit agency as a train operator right now and found out that this qualifies. This reduces TUI's tuition to $250 a credit hour making it less expensive than many of my other options including local options.

So I was considering going there for their BS in Computer Science. However I have concerns:

First off TUI is not a brick and mortar school. How will that be perceived?
Secondly their BSCS is not very traditional. For those in the Know how will that affect Job prospects?
Also since TUI is not ABET how will that affect job prospects?
Is TUI a good school education quality wise?

Finally for those in the know how would you compare TUIs BSCS to other schools that maybe have a more traditional one?

    Help is appreciated.

Have no concerns with TUI, my friend! I am military, so I benefited from the reduced tuition as well.

Of course my opinion of the school is biased because I graduated from there...its a great school with great instructors.

There are no "standard" exams, but there are many case study style research papers that the instructors use to grade student comprehension of the material. You will write a lot.

As for the ABET accreditation, if its required for you, then you will need to consider that. The institution is regionally accredited which is good.

Perception...well that is a tough one for me. I don't really know how TUI is "perceived". I guess if you compare a TUI education to that of a USC or Yale education, it may have a lesser perception...but there are many individuals that graduate from unknown schools and are successful. Consider how many D-1, D-1AA, D-2, D-3 and NAIA schools that produce quality grads! Not everyone can graduate from UCLA or Harvard.

I will say this...I took my BS from TUI and applied to Chadron State, Oklahoma State, and Missouri State for an MBA. I received acceptance to Chadron State, and conditional acceptance to Missouri State. I was denied admittance to Oklahoma State...I was denied due to GMAT scores, however. My BS degree from TUI was never once questioned by any of the schools, in fact I was very well prepared for graduate level work.

So yeah, TUI is good. :)

Just curious, what was your GMAT score? I'm interested in the same grad programs.

It was sub-400 :) or something like that...

I was really arrogant, went in and just took it without preparation...I did really well on the essay, however :).

I can wrote and spoke pretty well, but the proctor wouldn't let me take my shoes off to count dem' numbers during the quantitative portion!

If you get a good 550-600 GMAT, with a decent undergrad GPA and essay...you should have no problem with getting accepted to many of the online MBAs...

Sorry it was SE Missouri State, not Missouri state and now that I remember...I never really got an acceptance or non-acceptance from them... LOL!
But their program looks solid, though!

OK. Most full BSCS degrees, as apposed to BSCIS, require the Calculus series: I, II, and III.
