The site is dead, there is a few people using it.

  2. Hey Dave,
    Wow!
So it seems that it could have become what some of its members were complaining that degreeinfo had become. So it seems RA wasn't welcome, as for the sexual preference stuff maybe they thought of Levicoff and got scared that he might show up and cause all kinds of beou-ha-ha about RA and degree mills. I'm just kidding here.

I sometimes think that diversity (multiple voices/opinions existing in the same space) is something to be aiming for. For example, at Vancity (a large credit union( in Vancouver, there are lots of visible minorities working, sexual preference diversity is no problem, they even sponsor the yearly gay pride parade. So that seems to be a good move for diversity.

But you seem to think that diversity can be a bad thing too. Maybe too much diversity in a group such as this at the very beginning is difficult to manage? After all, there are strong passions here associated with the different positions taken.

    What do you think?
    Cheers,
    Earon

To me diversity is very much a positive. As you point out it can make keeping a group together very difficult. There has to be some kind of underlying respect and support. The other site did an admiral job in trying to create that, but my opinion is that the great diversity combined with the high passions overextended it as a community. After a couple of the main posters left there wasn't enough conversation to keep others interested.

    1) I used the term spamming liberally. Many of the names from here contributed nothing but criticism.

    2) A few degreeinfo members respected the forum.

    3) Strange people obviously inhabit all sites.

    4) Orthodoxy exported - totally - with less tolerance than exhibited here.

    5) Strangely, I do see the lessening of orthodoxy here. Rich Douglas, although still fervently R/A has taken some of the bite off his comments, which I related to a medical misadventure during his vasectomy.

There seems to be a few more people achieving or working on unaccredited degrees, who are actually hanging around and taking abuse and giving it back.

I am not surewhat the sexual preference thing was about, other than someone must have made a joke or comment, but I certainly don't recall it. For comparison, you could always check out aed for the somewhat unliberal responses in threads such as "Infidel Scum Whores Must Die." Then come back and tell me there was intolerance at Distancedegree.

Hey, Earon. Long time no see! Curtin can be found here. The director of the Internet studies program is/was Matthew Allen; Lawrene French, one of the old AED regulars, was doing her Ph.D. there at one point and might be able to tell you more.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,

  6. Thanks, Tom
Yup, it's been a while. I've been busy since 2002 with this U of Tilburg PhD. Actually I submitted two proposals, the first in 2001 and second in 2002. Same topic - but each proposal developed from the first. That's the nature of research doctrates (research, research, research). UVT is 75 years old and the provincial university in south Netherlands (province of Brabant). It is the chief Dutch university for organizational studies.

I've been quite busy with this but have netheless been following along with degreeinfo.com.

    Cheers,
    Earon
